Holiday season brings a lot of new and festive décor to the home. Here are some items to look out for to keep your furry friends safe:

Tinsel: Like any string, if tinsel is digested by your pet, it can be very dangerous and cause an obstruction that can require surgery.

Chocolate: Bakers’ chocolate, dark chocolate and semi-sweet chocolate tend to be the most dangerous types of chocolate for pets. Chocolate contains ingredients which can cause central nervous system dysfunction and heart issues. Though some chocolates contain less of these ingredients than others, all chocolate is considered toxic and should be kept away from our pets. If you think your pet has ingested chocolate, do not wait and call us immediately!

Imitation Snow: If you have flocking or imitation snow on your tree, make sure it is out of reach for your pet as it can be harmful if digested.

Tree preservatives: If you are using tree preservatives, ensure that your pet doesn’t have access to the tree water as this could be very toxic to them!

🐾 Why We Oppose Proposition 129 🐾

At Evans East Animal Hospital, your pet’s safety is our top priority. That’s why we are strongly opposed to Proposition 129, which introduces a new role in Colorado called the Veterinary Professional Associate (VPA).

This proposition poses significant risks to the safety and well-being of our pets allowing the VPA to practice veterinary medicine, including performing surgeries, after completing mostly online training and a brief internship. With minimal hands-on experience, VPAs would be inadequately prepared for the complexities of veterinary procedures, which could lead to dangerous outcomes for pets. Additionally, the creation of this new position seems unnecessary and could burden students with debt for a job that does not currently exist in the veterinary field.
