It is extremely important to continue to test your pet for heartworm disease even if they are on preventatives. Like the graphic says, medications can be spit out, rubbed off, or forgotten. This creates windows of opportunity for infection. Heartworm disease can take up to 6 months to show as positive and some medications can adversely affect your pet if they are given and your pet is positive.
