While we promote daily exercise for pets, it is simply too hot outside for them this week. Here is a list of businesses that allow well behaved (potty on the way in), leashed pets. Don't forget to take a dish of water for after their inside walk as well.

I know I've been posting quite a bit about Hot Cars and Heatstroke. I promise I'll get back to the fun cartoons soon! I just wish more people would read/share this information, so we can raise awareness and educate people. I just wrote an informative post with illustrations and even a FREE download to make a "Hot Cars" drink tumbler :). Who says serious subjects can't be fun?!: https://redandhowling.com/2023/05/16/pets-and-heat-a-lethal-combination/

What do you think?

Our first tip for dealing with Fear of People is to "Handfeed the Dog's Food" but what we really mean is to use the dog's food intelligently for classical conditioning and progressive desensitization. That might mean feeding food directly from your hand to the dog's mouth, but it probably also means tossing food onto the ground for the dog to eat.

You toss food with your HAND, so tossing still seems, to us, like a form of "handfeeding" but how many of you think that "Handfeed" is misleading here because most people will assume that it only means feed directly from hand to dog?

Do you think it would be better to say something like "Use their food in training" or "Use their food for classical conditioning", or "Don't waste their food" rather then "Handfeed the Dog's Food"???

Chewing is another normal and natural doggy behavior that becomes a problem when your dog doesn't know how to engage in this behavior appropriately.

Dogs bark. That should not come as a surprise to anyone.

Of course, barking can cause trouble when it's excessive and out of control. Teach your dog when it's important to be quiet, when it's appropriate (maybe even good) to bark, and to stop barking reliably and promptly, when you ask them to.

We're excited to announce that beginning February 17th, we'll be offering cage-free overnight boarding!

Cage-free boarding means:
· No cages
· No pens
· No crates
· No suites
· No isolation of any kind

Camp Run-A-Mutt has “pack boarding”:
· Snuggling with friends
· Room to stretch out
· All-night supervision by staff member
· Feels more like home

How does it work?
· Start by pre-registering your pup on our website
· All dogs must meet CRAM requirements (current vaccinations for Rabies, Distemper, Parvo, Bordetella, CIV, and Leptospirosis, and spayed or neutered if over 6 months of age), pass a temperament test & minimum 6-hour test day
· All boarders must arrive by noon (for maximum play time)
· We provide everything so all you have to bring is your pup and their food
· One all-inclusive, simple rate for all dogs
· No extra charges for necessities like medications, playtime, or snuggles
· Dogs are directly supervised by staff 24 hours/day
· Pick up time is by close of business (no noon cut off times here)

Pack boarding is more natural and generally less stressful than traditional boarding, but may not be the right fit for every dog, so give us a call today to learn more or stop by for a tour of our facility!

*If your dog is already a camper, please inquire with the front desk for more info!

We love hearing success stories!

Maggi was a shy, anxious German Shephard when we worked with her and through training with K-9 Code, she has come out of her shell, gained confidence and even greeted lots of friends and family this Thanksgiving!

If you have a K-9 Code success story we'd love to hear it! Send us a message and a picture or comment here! We love all the pup-dates!

It’s sweet corn season again in Iowa! While we all love corn, many don't realize it can be a huge health risk for dogs. Corn cobs are one of the most common objects we have to surgically remove from dogs' GI tracts. Please keep cobs away from dogs even after the corn has been eaten. Corn that has been removed from the cob can be a great treat for our furry friends.
