Stay safe in the snow today! MountainView Veterinary Hospital will be opening at 10am. ❄

And remember to keep the pups away from salt on the roads. If you can't avoid it, be sure to thoroughly clean their paws when you get back in. Risks of salt include the following:

➡ Irritation and Burns: When dogs walk on salted surfaces, the salt crystals can stick to their paws, causing irritation, dryness, and even burns.

➡ Ingestion: Dogs often lick their paws, which can lead to ingesting road salt. This can cause salt poisoning (hypernatremia), leading to symptoms like vomiting, diarrhea, excessive thirst, lethargy, tremors, seizures, and in severe cases, coma.

➡ Dehydration and Electrolyte Imbalance: High sodium content in road salt can lead to dehydration and electrolyte imbalances, which can be harmful to dogs.

➡ Kidney Damage: Prolonged exposure or ingestion of large amounts of road salt can potentially cause kidney damage.

Dog boots can also protect your furry friend. Please share any photos!
