As annoying as rainy days can be, we have some friends here at Spock's Sanctuary who absolutely LOVE the rain!!
Our Marbled Newt is one of our biggest rain lovers. These guys are native to western Europe and can be found in well-vegetated ponds, pools, streams, etc. They also have very interesting colors. Typically, they have a brown or black body with sporadic patterns of green. Also, when adolescents, all Marbled Newts have an orange strip from nose to tail across their spine; however, females retain this line into adulthood whereas it fades away for males! Marbled Newts' adult size is only about 5 inches long. Though these guys are small, they are always on the move! They love to hide and climb so they can be found under rocks, climbing vegetation, or enjoying the water.
Our Marbles Newt would love to keep you out of the rain this weekend, so stop into Spock Sanctuary between 9-12 and 2-5 on Saturday and meet this little guy in person!
We've come a long way since we first moved in, but there's still bigger and better yet to come. Please bear with us as we close to undergo renovations throughout the month of February.
In the meantime, we plan to lean into our outreach services even more, so if you have any birthday parties, classroom visits, or other events in mind, now is the time to get those booked with us! https://www.spockssanctuary.org/education
Thank you for your patience while we prepare for reopening the zoo. We look forward to seeing you in March!
We’re not sure what Mr. Groundhog said this morning, but Octavia is headed down for 6 more weeks of winter! Cozy up and stay warm while we wait for her to finish waking up.
