Welcome to Iowa Veterinary Wellness Center! (Formerly Iowa Veterinary Acupuncture Clinic) We were the first holistic veterinary practice in the entire Midwest region! We use an integrative approach when handling each of our patients. We are unique in this area as we combine Western medicine with traditional Chinese medicine. As a result, the complementary treatments are more effective and lead to

healthier, happier lives. Our holistic approach allows us to begin our assessment and treatment of each patient from every angle. We focus on looking at each patient in his or her entirety. We utilize the vast tools at our disposal to design a treatment and prevention plan. Our goal is to reduce, and hopefully eliminate, disease symptoms with limited to no side effects. You may have noticed some new faces around the clinic- We are excited to introduce Autumn! 🐾

Autumn has been in the veterinary field since 2011 and decided to pursue her degree in Veterinary Technology. She graduated from the DMACC Vet Tech program in 2015 and has been a Registered Veterinary Technician since, working in several local vet clinics.

Autumn has previous experience in massage therapy as well as working in chiropractic care (on the human side), and is excited to be a part of the team here at IVWC, utilizing both Eastern and Western medicine to provide a comprehensive experience for the patients here.

Autumn is a resident of Ankeny where she lives with her 5 year old son, her cat Peach, and her Pomsky, Sapphira. In her free time, Autumn enjoys spending time with family and friends, cooking, dining out, camping, and spending time outdoors, especially by the water!

We want to formally notify you that Dr. Henning has decided to go into full retirement.

We want to express our gratitude for the time he has spent with us here at IVWC. Our team has learned a lot from working alongside him and are immensely grateful.

IVWC is committed to making Dr. Henning's departure as smooth as possible for him and for those who entrusted Dr. Henning with their pets. We hope that by providing this notice, you will give us grace during this transition.

For those who did not get the chance to know him, Dr. Henning graduated from Iowa State University of Veterinary Medicine in 1985. He practiced small animal medicine and surgery in Elgin, Illinois from 1985 to 1992. In 1992, Dr. Henning and a partner purchased two facilities in Des Moines—Starch Pet Hospital and University West Pet Clinic. In 2016 they sold the hospitals, and Dr. Henning worked for the new owner until June 2020. With all his years of experience in medicine and surgery, the OR is where Dr. Henning was the happiest, having performed almost all forms of orthopedic and soft tissue surgeries. Dr. Henning has enjoyed the many years of providing for you and your pets. Now, he will be spending retirement with his beloved family and tending to his farm, of course!

Including screening tests during your pet’s wellness visit can help us detect potential health issues early on and may help you avoid larger treatment costs that can happen as disease progresses.

Early detection screening can include blood, urine, and stool samples. These tests screen for a variety of conditions such as but not limited to, cancer, liver disease, kidney disease, diabetes, and other intestinal parasites. Catch health issues before symptoms appear to keep your pet happy and healthy longer! 🐾
