Welcome to Iowa Veterinary Wellness Center! (Formerly Iowa Veterinary Acupuncture Clinic)

Iowa Veterinary Acupuncture Clinic came to the Des Moines, Iowa area over a decade ago. We were the first holistic veterinary practice in the entire Midwest region. We use an integrative approach when handling each of our patients. We are unique in this area as we combine Western medicine with traditional Ch

inese medicine. As a result, the complementary treatments are more effective and lead to healthier, happier lives. Our holistic approach allows us to begin our assessment and treatment of each patient from every angle. We focus on looking at each patient in his or her entirety. We utilize the vast tools at our disposal to design a treatment and prevention plan. Our goal is to reduce, and hopefully eliminate, disease symptoms with limited to no side effects. As you can see, we love what we do and we do what we love. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or comments. Feel free to stop by for a guided tour. We look forward to hearing from you soon!

Did you know? More dogs and cats are lost during the winter than during any other season. Make sure your pet always wears an ID tag with up-to-date contact information or is microchipped! Snow and ice can hide recognizable scents that might normally help your pet find his/her way back home. πŸΎβ›„

Want to get your pet microchipped? Contact the clinic today! ☎️ (515) 274-3811

Cold tolerance can vary from pet to pet based on their coat, body fat, activity level, and health. Like people, cats and dogs are susceptible to frostbite and hypothermia. 🐢🧣

- Signs of hypothermia include, whining, shivering, seemingly anxious, slows down, or stops moving. Frostbite is harder to detect, and may not be fully recognized until after the damage is done. If you suspect your pet has hypothermia or frostbite, contact a vet immediately.

Doc is here to let you know how great Laser Acupuncture is and all the benefits it may bring! 🐾

Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese medical technique that has been in use for well over 3,000 years. It has been shown to increase blood and lymphatic flow to tissues, stimulate proper nerve function, and increase the body’s ability to release natural pain-relieving chemicals.

Acupuncture can also be used to treat a vast array of diseases and maladies including, but not limited to,
- Orthopedic disease
- Neurological disease
- Immune system disorders
- Systemic diseases such as kidney, liver, and bladder problems.

If you find your self interested in learning more about our Acupuncture practices and the benefits it can bring your pet, give us a call at (515) 274-3811 or visit our website at www.apvet.com

Here is some tips to keep your pets paws safe this winter! πŸΎβ›„οΈ

- Antifreeze is a lethal for dogs and cats. Consider using products that contain propylene glycol rather than ethylene glycol.
- Use pet-friendly ice melts whenever possible. Ice melts can be dangerous when ingested.
- Booties can provide better coverage.
- After going out, make sure to dry your pet's feet and stomach to remove ice, salt and chemicals.
