HOLIDAY REMINDER:

Afford-A-Care will be CLOSED early December 20th and will re-open Thursday January 2nd.

We are doing walk ins this week on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 8-11 and 1-2. NO WALK INS FRIDAY.

Friday we will be closing at Noon.

Please plan accordingly for medicine and prescription food and boarding vaccines!

HOLIDAY HOURS:

We will be closing early Wednesday November 27th and will be closed through Tuesday December 3rd. No walk ins that holiday week.

Please plan accordingly for medication refills and prescription food pick ups! 🐾

Also just a reminder for SATURDAYS.

**Only CURRENT AFFORD-A-CARE clients we have seen within the past year.

No X-Rays, No Quality of Life/Euthanasia, No critically ill exams.

This is to help our current clients and limit excessive wait times. There is extremely limited staff on Saturdays. Thank you for your cooperation and patience during this policy change!

POLICY CHANGE:

In order to accommodate our current clients, we will no longer be accepting new clients on Saturdays.

New clients must come as a walk in Tuesday through Friday 8-12 and 1-2 pm.

If you are an established client, Saturday Walk Ins are from 8-9 AM. We do offer appointments, but please be aware Saturdays are usually booked out a month in advance.

Just a reminder, we DO NOT perform x-rays or lethargic/critical exams, or euthanasia on Saturdays due to excessive amount of walk ins and limited staff.

Spring is basically here which means all kinds of icky bugs!

We've got your pets covered with flea/tick prevention and treatment. Even puppies and kittens can be covered!

As long as your pet is current on rabies and seen here once a year, you can come in anytime we're open to pick some up. Your pet doesn't have to be with you unless you want to weigh them to make sure they're getting the right dose!

Prices range from $25-$85 depending on pet's weight and duration of coverage (Psst, Bravecto is one pill that lasts for 3 months in those hard-to-pill dogs!)

EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT: ✨LOTTIE ✨

When you walk into Afford-A-Care, you may notice a dog sitting on the desk. This is our supervisor and treat extraordinaire Lottie. Many people think she is a statue until she moves!

Lottie is a staff member's pet and comes to work with her pretty much every day. She is a 4 year old shih tzu and she has also been a patient here since she was a puppy, so she knows the ins and outs of the clinic and can tell your dog what's up ;)

No matter her work, she's always down to be interrupted for treats!

At Afford-A-Care, we're always trying to learn better ways to help our clients and their pets. Those of you that get prescription food know it is getting EXPENSIVE. So we're trying to explore different options for prescription diets in the clinic. A representative from Purina came to speak to staff about their prescription food for special diets! Staff learned a lot during a recent meeting and we hope to carry Purina Pro Plan Veterinary Formula here soon and also have options for home delivery!

It's no secret our phone line is hard to get through on. We are an extremely high-traffic clinic, the ONLY walk-in clinic in Des Moines, and our phone lines cancel out calls when we have multiple people on hold (which is a lot of the time!)

To help combat this, we now offer TEXTING. You can text our phone number at 515-280-5336 for any and all questions and needs. Appointments, medical care, general concerns, grooming records, ANYTHING. Just like you were calling the clinic :)

Unfortunately this weather is relentless and not fit for man nor beast. Affordacare Pet Hospital and The Low Cost Spay clinic will be closed again tomorrow Saturday January 13th. We will be calling Tuesday to reschedule anyone that had appointments today and tomorrow. We apologize for any inconvenience however your safety and the safety of our staff is paramount.
