Let’s talk about puppies.
As often as they’re seen as lovable, fun-loving, and playful - on the flip side, they’re also seen as unruly, obnoxious, and stubborn.
It doesn’t have to be that way, and it starts with the way we communicate with them.
When you learn to speak puppy, everything falls into place. You don’t need to punish, yell, or demand, when you can play, bond, and reward instead. That’s the power of positive reinforcement training.
Check out this previously “unruly and abusive” four month old pup who became the star of her puppy class when her owner learned how to communicate with her in a way she understood!
It was Jackson's 5th birthday the other day 🥰 Needless to say, the little guy was spoiled a bit more than usual!

Recall tip!
Make your cue word as happy as possible. When your dog has fun coming back to you, you'll find a lot less hesitation during training. No mean mommy voices allowed!
The adorable dog in this video is Wilson ❤️ He's ultra sweet, loves to snuggle, very smart, and is adoptable through The Haley Graves Foundation!

One question I get fairly often is "How do I get my dog to love wearing boots?" If you're among those who would like to know the answer, read on!
Dog boots are an essential tool when doing certain activities. Hiking (especially with sharp rocks around), going to the beach where burning sand may be present, or even going to a festival where the ground may be too hot to handle for long periods of time. Boots provide a barrier for your dog's paw pads just like our shoes do for our feet!
To get started, put them on your dog for the first time and make it a positive experience. Give treats as you slide them on, and give them time to adjust to those weird little things attached to their feet. The best thing you can do is immediately have them do something they love. For some dogs, that's playing with toys, for others, it's going for a walk or playing in some water. The key is that you want to make it as positive as possible so they adjust quickly and seamlessly.
If they don't appreciate them after some time walking around and wearing them, definitely double check the sizing of the boots. Too small = totally uncomfortable, you want them to be able to move naturally. Too big = too much wiggle, they could fall off, or they could cause irritation.
To give you an idea of how quick this process can be, the video included here is of my 1-year-old dog, Jupiter, wearing boots for the first time, about one minute after first putting them on.
Good luck on your summer adventures!
Sometimes you have to break the concentration and be a goofball!
