IN THE NEWS: IA - West Des Moines looks for contractor to care for domesticated cats and kittens

"The city of West Des Moines will start looking for a contractor to take care of domesticated cats and newborn kittens separated from their mother, according to a release from the city.

In January, the shelter the city previously contracted with, AHeinz57 in De Soto, announced it would phase out its rescue and adoption program for cats due to a lack of resources. West Des Moines still contracts with AHeinz57 for dog adoptions. "

"On Sunday night, the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of someone abusing a dog as well as the sound of gunshots at a residence in the 300 block of East Street in Kellogg. According to the sheriff’s office, when responding deputies arrived at the home they met two individuals, 32-year-old Kerry Quick and 28-year-old Justice Goodwin."

IN THE NEWS: TX - Texas flooding: Over 60 pets arrive at APA! after severe flooding in Kerr, Williamsion counties

"About 60 pets have been relocated to Austin Pets Alive! following severe flooding in Kerr and Williamson counties over the last 24 hours.

APA! says it has been in Kerr County with a veterinary team helping to triage incoming animals impacted by the flooding.

The organization was able to completely clear out the Kerr County shelter, allowing them to house lost pets closer to home."

Austin Pets Alive! is asking for the public's help after the organization took in about 60 pets following severe flooding in Kerr and Williamson counties. It is also seeking assistance for Kerr and Williamson County shelters.

"The study shows that more than half of the breeders or brokers who supply retail stores with puppies, and who have been tracked over the past three years by the nonprofit organization Bailing Out Benji. have been cited for regulatory violations.

Mindi Callison, executive director of the Iowa-based nonprofit organization, says that for decades, there has been a lack of data surrounding the pet-acquisition industry — particularly with regard to the complicated intersection of breeders, brokers and sellers."

IN THE NEWS: FL - Woman accused of leaving 7 pets to die in abandoned house

"A Florida woman was taken into custody after police say a number of dead animals were found decomposing in her abandoned home.

Danielle McGinnis, 57, is behind bars, charged with seven counts of aggravated animal cruelty resulting in death. Police found two dogs, two cats and three birds dead Friday in a home in Edgewater. They responded to the area after neighbors reported they hadn’t seen McGinnis in almost a year."

Police say the bodies of several animals were found decomposing in the suspect's abandoned home.

According to the Village of Bath Police Department, animal control was called to do a welfare check on a dog that was showing signs of heat exhaustion.
