We have patiently been waiting for this day to come and it was a dream of ours when we first started HB Rottweilers! On Christmas Day we welcomed 9 healthy babies, 5 boys and 4 girls out of Millie x Judge!

The most exciting part about this litter is we own all 4 grandparents!! Millie’s parents are Chloe & Rambo and Judges parents are Tilly & Rubble!

Our puppies are AKC registered, both parents are genetically health tested and DNA tested. Tails and dewclaws have been done done. Prior to going to their new homes at 8 weeks they will have been dewormed, (2,4,6,8 weeks) 1st set of shots and a clear health check from the vet. Each puppy comes with their individual folder which includes contracts, copies of health & dna paperwork, shot record and all receipts from the vet plus some additional information. Many references as well.

Informational post as this week I’ve been asked about other breeds of dogs, what to look for when finding breeders and puppies.

Many dog breeders will inform you that there dogs are AKC registered and have OFA testing on hips and elbows which is great. However, that testing DOES NOT guarantee that an offspring will never have those issues. What is a guarantee is health and DNA testing, you cannot change genetic DNA traits. Each breed of dog is susceptible to carrying certain genetic traits. Many different breeds can also carry the same genetic trait. Thinking that oh, I have a mix so I won’t have any problems is false. Having the parents tested prior to purchasing a puppy could potentially save you hundreds and a massive heart break. I personally use Embark vet for all my testing, they screen for over 270 genetic health traits along with DNA. You will receive over 15 pages of information about your dog. When searching for a breeder/puppy here is what I screen for

1.Are the parents registered? If so, can the puppies be registered? Just because the parents are doesn’t guarantee the offspring can be. Make sure you’re not paying for an AKC puppy that isn’t.

2.Just because the puppies are AKC registered doesn’t mean that they are purebred, there are shady people out there. This is where the DNA testing comes in. AKC does not scan breeders unless they have been notified of red flags.

3.Are the parents health and DNA tested? Great, let’s see copies. It’s very easy to acquire copies of that information.

5.Does the breeder know the COI ( coefficient of inbreeding ) of the parents? Majority of all dogs with have a percentage, many confirmation and health issues can stem from inbreeding.

4.Vet reports! Has the mama dog been well taken care and received her shots over the years? Have the puppies been vaccinated and dewormed ? Awesome, show me copies! Same with any breeds that have tails done. I want to see the report by a vet for tails & declaws.

5.Building a relationship with a breeder shouldn’t be difficult, if they truly enjoy and care about the puppies. If for any reason you don’t feel this, make sure you continue to do your research. Yes it’s a business but the dogs should be part of their family.

6.CONTRACTS!! Every responsible breeder should have contracts in place and give you all copies of information that pertains to your puppy!

Also, when it comes to spaying and neutering your dog. PLEASE do some research, it is ideal for anyone to wait closer to age of 2. There has been many studies related to growth and overall body maturity that can help your dog have the best life possible.

I’m sure I’ve missed something, any other breeders that would like to add anything. Please do! Just because you may not get a puppy for us, doesn’t mean I can’t help answer questions.
