Meet Hootie! She is a flashy , 12 year old grade mare standing 15.1 hands. Over the last few years Hootie has been used for trail riding. Very quiet when she goes out alone, through the neighborhoods or out in the open. She’s gone up north to the mountains, camping and taken swimming at the lake. Isn’t phased by traffic, dogs or other commotion. I haven’t even heard her whinny when others scream out to her. If she does happen to spook, it’s very subtle and moves on. In the arena she has a nice handle, nothing overly fancy. True one hand neck rein, a jog you can sit all day , knows her leads and easy transitions. She is soft in the mouth, flex’s , headsets and easy back. Has been ridden both English and Western as well. Hootie is just a honest mare that wants to please her rider, she doesn’t have to be ridden everyday and stays sensible. Ground manners are like one should be, will lunge on a line, ties quietly, loads, bathes and enjoys being groomed. I believe she is suitable for advanced beginner on up. Hootie does not care for her ears to be messed with, now she is easy to halter, put a fly mask on, cleaning her face. It really only becomes a problem when bridling, she will put her head down, bridle in mouth and you have to have a buckle headstall, no ear pieces. She is current on feet, teeth , shots and dewormer.
Full disclosure, shortly after Hootie came into me she got herself casted in the stall is what we believe about 6 weeks ago. Which caused some swelling in the point of the hock which looked like a capped hock and minor edema. She NEVER went unsound and swelling slowly went down. To verify nothing major happened we had Dr Merrill X ray both hocks and watch her move. We have proof and he cleared her , with no limitation or issues.
