🥰🥰🥰🥰 GOOD MORNING EVERYONE!
My dog has literally done the same thing every day for six years. Wake up. Eat breakfast. Nap. Walk the same three blocks. Nap. Eat dinner. Play with the same squeaky toy. Sleep. Repeat. Tomorrow, same exact thing. And you know what? He approaches each day like it's CHRISTMAS MORNING. The same breakfast? "OH MY GOD IS THAT FOOD?! FOOD?! I LOVE FOOD!" The same walk? "WE'RE GOING ON A WALK?! BEST. DAY. EVER." The same toy? "THIS IS MY FAVORITE TOY IN THE HISTORY OF TOYS!" Meanwhile, I'm over here with unlimited Netflix, DoorDash, and the entire internet, and I'm STILL BORED. I have infinite variety and zero joy. He has complete monotony and infinite joy. What does that tell you? Happiness isn't about newness or excitement or constantly chasing the next thing. Happiness is about APPRECIATION. My dog doesn't take anything for granted. Ever. The same meal is a blessing. The same walk is an adventure. The same people are his whole world. He's not searching for meaning or purpose or the next dopamine hit. He's just... present. Grateful. Content. Humans have everything and appreciate nothing. Dogs have the same routine forever and appreciate EVERYTHING. Maybe we're the ones who need to learn. Maybe happiness was never about having more. Maybe it's about wanting what you already have. My dog figured that out. I'm still working on it.
