WHO IS READY TO HEAR THE REST OF THE STORY??
Mr. Gee was a stray dog I found beside my house. (THANK YOU!) where he was poked and prodded some more to try to figure out what was obstructing his breathing, and what to do about it without risking his life. The original concern was that it was a mass or foreign object that had grown into his trachea, making removal difficult if not impossible. Now that's scary!
In the meantime, it was also discovered that he had a BULLET in his neck, including splinters and fragments! But with no entry wound, the bullet must have been there a while... and probably had little to do with his current breathing difficulties.
So, are you ready for the good news? The ER vet feels that the obstruction is "simply" a raging infection that has nearly closed his windpipe. And that strong antibiotics should clear it up. He also noted that the bullet did hit his spine, and that he has a bit of a strange gait, so that may make him always a bit "special."
BUT ALIVE. And hopefully breathing properly soon. HOW FREAKING AWESOME IS THIS???

UPDATE at soon. Mr G is speeding toward my clinic to try to clear a mass or object in his throat. He is having trouble breathing. PLEASE send your love and prayers for him. And more money ššššš
UPDATE soon. No fever, no obvious signs of infection. Potentially something blocking his throat. Still evaluating...

We had an emergency unfold yesterday, but THANKFULLY we were able to pull together a potentially life-saving solution.
Mr. G was a stray in a local shelter who came in with a mysterious illness. It's hard to describe what he was doing except to say he "gurgles" (thus the name Mr. G???). He periodically (every few minutes) opens his mouth to breathe and it's obvious he is struggling... and he gurgles. You can FEEL it in his throat... and you can see the pain and fear in his eyes.
The shelter was concerned about possible contagion so asked us if we could take him immediately, or... the alternative was inevitable.
We visited with him to see if we were willing to take on the risk and when he put his paw on my arm and looked into my eyes... Well...
WELCOME to puppies for adoption in Michigan Mr. G!
Seriously though, we need to find out asap what's going on and if we can fix it. We are looking to find a temporary foster home for him.
