The Midas Cichlid (Amphilophus citrinellus) is a bold and intelligent freshwater fish known for its fiery colors and strong personality. Native to the lakes and rivers of Central America, this species is admired for its brilliant orange, yellow, and white hues—often resembling molten gold in motion. Highly territorial and full of character, the Midas Cichlid is best kept in spacious aquariums with sturdy décor and compatible tankmates. With proper care and attention, these cichlids become surprisingly interactive, even recognizing their keepers and displaying unique behaviors that make them true underwater personalities.

Had a ton of fun at Lakes Aquarium Club's recent swap at St. Cloud State University! It was a rare pleasure to reconnect with many familiar faces and network with all the new vendors, hobbyists and educators who showed up to support the club!

We would like to extend special thanks to Tong’s Fish Room for helping coordinate this season's event with us.

We also deeply appreciate AQUATOP, Fluval, Bulk Reef Supply and for donating all the sweet products that were gifted and auctioned off.

In case you missed out, we also brought back a bunch of neat new critters to exhibit at the shop in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. Come check them out and snag something up before its gone.

We'll see all you folks at the next one!

The North Meets South Swap is underway! Looks like an amazing turnout this fall. For all the folks who cant attend, and anyone coming back up from St. Cloud, the storefront in Detroit Lakes will be open until 7pm tonight to accommodate all of your last minute needs. 🤙🪸

It's that time again! Lakes Aquarium Club's next aquatic swap will be held at the St. Cloud State University Memorial Center in St. Cloud, MN on October 12th. We also confirmed there's going to be a symposium on fish nutrition and deep sea bioluminescence delivered by the university's top notch professors as well👩‍🏫

This gathering presents a unique opportunity for enthusiasts to not only support small businesses, but to also learn, exchange, share and sell their aquatic (and non-aquatic!) treasures with the community. We look forward to you joining us as we come together to celebrate our passion for the hobby. Additional details and instructions are provided within the event listing for vendors and booths.

The vendor list is quickly filling up, so don't wait until the last minute to reserve a primo spot for your small business.
