I don’t care how much buzz they get, their beauty cannot be overstated. Truly one of the most colorful and fascinating creatures to call this earth it’s home- the Poecilotheria metallica (Gooty Sapphire Ornamental Tarantula)

Hope to see their numbers increase somewhat in the wild, but their future seems grim due to the deforestation of their natural habitat and illegal poaching by brown-boxers in the pet trade. No current mainstream conservation effort exists for this or other endangered Poecilotheria.

This sub-adult female was hatched by who I was lucky enough to pick her up from last year.

I don’t know why I don’t hear more about the O. violaceopes in the hobby (at least around here). They’re a gorgeous old world species and mine always manages to show itself at night or when it’s been quiet for awhile. This is our ~3” juvie that just started showing her adult colors.
