Pigs Not Eating? When Pigs Go On A Hunger Strike
Is your pig not eating? That is especially concerning to all pig owners when a pig loses its appetite or just refuses to eat. KuneKune breeders in particular as KuneKune pigs always act like they are starving to death. Let's unravel the mystery of why. Have you ever noticed your pig suddenly losing its appetite and wondered why? A pig's refusal to eat can be concerning, as it may indicate an underlying issue that needs to be addressed. In this article, we will delve into the reasons behind a pig's sudden loss of appetite and provide you with a better understanding of this behavior.

One probable reason for a pig's refusal to eat could be an illness or health problem. Just like humans, pigs can experience digestive disorders, infections, or other conditions that affect their appetite. It is important to monitor your pig's behavior and consult a veterinarian if you suspect a health issue. It is important to note that pigs hide illnesses well and sometimes, you may not notice the changes right away so when you do, you need to act immediately.

You have most likely heard of male dogs marking their territory but did you know that boars (male pigs) do as well?

KuneKune Boars - Marking Territory

Did you know that KuneKune boars mark their territory? It can be quite alarming to see your boar with white foam all over their mouth, but this is a normal behavior. Boars mark their territory when they are moved to a new area, introduced to a new pig, or when they can see or smell another boar. For example, if you have kept one boar in an area for a while and then introduce a mature boar to that area, you will likely see this marking behavior.

Boars have scent glands in various parts of their body, such as their mouth, male parts, eyes, and forelegs. The foam that appears when they mark their territory has a strong odor, which can be unpleasant to humans. Some boars have a stronger scent than others. This behavior is a way for the boar to advise other boars that he is the top pig in his area, and it is also part of a mating ritual that appeals to females.

If you are new to KuneKune breeding, it is important to educate yourself about their behavior to be successful as a breeder and enthusiast..
