It’s been a busy week! I’ve finished up more euros this week, a few shoulder mounts, two fish, repaired some mule deer antlers for a mount and skinned a few things for soft tanning! This ol’ gal is tiiired.

Here is an illustration of how to cape for a shoulder mount deer. I need armpits, not the tail. If in doubt, go a little further back. I can always cut off extra, but cannot add to.

There are several steps that I use in the process of producing a quality skull mount. Here are a few things I am particular about when working on your Euro—The preorbital vacuity and nasal turbinates should be clean and in tact. Inside the cranium should be clean as well. The nasal bones should have little to no space between them. The bone should be white with no grease or blood settled in it.

There are many possibilities with skull mounts. Let us create something unique for your collection this season!

This is a nice illustration on how to cape your deer. (Remember— I need armpits, not the tail!) Cut around the midsection, halfway between the front and back legs. Ring around the legs, just above the knee. Then, follow the “line” up each front leg, where the brown hair meets the white. Or, bring it to me, and I’ll do it for you! 😁 🦌 Get those deer cooled down as quickly as possible, too! Happy Hunting Everyone!!

Here is an easy illustration of proper caping. If in doubt, please let the taxidermist do it! Remember—

THE QUALITY OF YOUR MOUNT BEGINS IN THE FIELD!

With warmer temperatures, hides will begin to break down immediately. The sooner you can get that deer cooled down, and either to the taxidermist or in the freezer, the better shape your hide will be in.

A few important tips to keep in mind:

1) Do not soak your deer/cape in standing water/ice. It’s best to get it in a freezer if you can’t get to the taxidermist immediately.

2) Don’t parade around town for a week (or even a day) showing off your trophy, then expect great results. Chances are, even in colder temps, your cape won’t be fit to use.

3) I can’t stress this enough— if you don’t know how to properly cape a deer, then don’t. (I’ve made the same mistake before learning taxidermy!) You and I both want the best outcome. Sometimes people leave extra on the back and none where I need it most— the brisket area. I don’t need the tail, but I do need the armpits and chest. 😅

4) Try your best not to drag the deer, especially the areas that will be mounted.

I wish everyone a safe and successful hunting season this year! I am SO happy that fall and winter are around the corner! It’s my favorite time of the year! ☺️🍁

Well, I survived the hysterectomy! And so did Scott Garner. 😅♥️☺️🍑 Thankfully, they were able to perform the surgery using the Da Vinci robotic laparoscopic method. 👍🏼👍🏼 Praying for a good patho report soon! Thank you for all the prayers and well wishes!

We’ve shared the news with our family and friends, but wanted my customers to know too… I haven’t forgotten about you, or your taxidermy projects. I’m working as much as I possibly can on everything. I have been having some health issues lately, and was diagnosed with uterine cancer this week. I’m facing a complete hysterectomy soon and would appreciate your prayers over the next few weeks. That’s about all we know at this point. Hoping and praying for the best outcome, and so thankful for my family’s support! If you have any questions, please feel free to message me privately. I’m praying that I’ll be back at it very soon!
