Even though it might not be fishing season for some anymore, the tackle might still be out and about.

We saw this kitty earlier this week with a hook in his paw. The owners heard it scrambling around in very early morning hours trying to get the hook out of its paw. They had not realized a hook had been left out somewhere.

Make sure to keep all fishing gear put away out of reach from your pets! Fish hooks can quickly get swallowed or embedded in their skin, lips, legs, and paws. We typically see this in more in dogs than cats with the hook in their mouth. If this happens to your pet, call your veterinarian immediately. Do NOT try to remove yourself.

Question of the week:
How do I confirm that my dog is the father of a litter?

We had an owner ask if it was possible to test the dad of the litter since the colors were not what they expected. If you are not with them 100% of time when outdoors or if you have multiple intact males in the household, then there is a possibility of exposure to other males.

There is a test that can be sent to our reference laboratory similar to what is done with people as well! 😁 This test can be ran on cats, dogs, horses, and cattle! Samples are retrieved from both parents and the offspring. For dogs and cats the test consists of a cheek swab. Hair follicles are used for samples in horses and cattle just like they do in people.

Question Of The Week!!

This week we had another suggestion in our box: Give me big discounts!

While we do not give individuals discounts, we do have certain months that have specials!

For the entire month of November we are discounting all spays and neuters by 15%!!

Spaying and neutering your pet is strongly recommended not only to avoid unwanted litters, but also bad habits such as aggression, marking, and roaming. By spaying and neutering your pet at the appropriate age of 5-6 months old it can drastically reduce the risks of certain cancers and infectious diseases!

Call 573-624-2140 to get your pet on the schedule ASAP! Spaces will fill up quickly!

We also have these other discount months!:

February: Dental Month - 15% off dental cleanings
March: Barnyard Special - 15% off 3 or more spays/neuters
June: Tick Awareness - Upgrade a heartworm test to a 4DX test for only $5 more! 4DX tests for tick borne illnesses as well
July: Microchip Discount - $10 off microchipping
August: Heartworm Awareness - $5 off heartworm testing

Typically we have a question of the week, but this week we found a suggestion in the box instead:

“You should let your regular clients make a charge account”

Unfortunately, due to being a small business, we do not have the funds to allow people to charge their bills. We do offer alternative ways to pay such as Care Credit. If approved, it is a great way to be able to make payments through a third party! You can apply online at https://www.carecredit.com/

Pet insurance can help offset the cost of veterinary care for your pet, and can provide a number of benefits. The bill is still due up front at your vet, but will be reimbursed depending on the coverage of your plan. There are many different companies that offer pet insurance. One option is Pets Best. Check it out at https://www.petsbest.com/

Due to short staffing, we have made the difficult decision to reduce our weekend hours. While we intend to go back to being open every Saturday as soon as we are able, at this time we will only be open the first and third Saturdays of each month. All other office hours will remain unchanged.

Our office will continue to be open Monday thru Friday from 8-5. Our weekend hours will be the first and third Saturday of each month from 8-12.

We apologize for any inconveniences this may cause.

Big news, big news!!

We now have boarding available! We are using the kennels we have in our old building (located right here on the same property as the new clinic) and they are ready to house your fur kids while you’re away! While we are remodeling the old building, we are limited on space until the remodel is complete. Make sure to book your slots early!!!

All boarders must be current on vaccines. 😁

There is not a groomer present as of yet, but we do offer baths, nail trims, and a**l gland expressions!

In order to ensure your furry friend has a reservation please call 573- 624-2140. 😎

Question of the week!!
“Why does my dog eat grass a lot?”

In most cases, this is actually perfectly normal! Studies have even shown that many wolves will graze from time to time! Our canine friends are not obligate carnivores like our cats. That said, if your cat starts eating and/or vomiting grass, please call your veterinarian! There are circumstances where eating grass can be an indicator of other problems, but not usually serious. Some examples include stress or a diet low in fiber. Check out this article from VCA for more information.😁

Question of the week!!

How often should I bathe my cats?

Whereas our veterinarian doesn’t bathe her cats, some breeds require more bathing than others. There can be certain medical conditions that necessitate baths in certain shampoos. Most veterinary recommended shampoos are labeled that they can be used weekly, but on average bathing can be done about once a month unless having problems.
Human shampoos like baby shampoo and flea/tick shampoos should be avoided to stay clear of harsh chemicals that can irritate their skin.
If you are looking to bathe your furry feline, consider speaking to your veterinarian before beginning a routine!

Tails is posing to get all the love! He is still looking for his forever home! He is a little shy when new people meet him but would be such a fun addition to any home! He is still young enough that he could be added to a home with other cats or cat friendly dogs! His foster mom says he is the most playful kitten she’s ever met ❤️. Check the comments for a cute video of him playing in the new candy corn house that his foster mom just got out 😁. If you are interested in adopting please contact us at 573-624-2140 during the hours of Monday through Friday 8am-5pm or Saturday 8am-12pm. Remember even a share can help us find this guy a home!
