So let’s talk a bit about saddle fitting and why it’s so important for you and your horse!

🆘First let’s go over some signs that your saddle is not the right fit for your horse:
-Sores over back/withers
-Biting or ill behavior upon cinching or saddling
- Reluctance to move forward or perform task under saddle
- … and many more!

❓How can we determine if it is the saddle or a true medical issue?
Saddle fit session!
These range in price depending on how many horses, how many saddles, and/or if we do a complete saddle fit which is 2-3 saddles at stand still and while under saddle.

‼️Why is this so important?
Because a saddle is in place to disperse your weight evenly accross the horses back to be able to perform a task with minimal insult to the horse. Repeated insult from an ill fitting saddle can cause muscle atrophy, nerve damage, scar tissue, or even worse conditions!

This is a perplexing topic with so many variables! It’s hard to cover it all in one post and sometimes even one session!

Hey everybody! Thought I’d drop in and introduce myself so you know a little more about me and why I started to add more arrows to my quiver!

My name is Dr. Holly Crews, I’ve been in the field of veterinary medicine for over 15 years in every aspect of the industry in mixed animal practices/roughstock/exotics and I have learned from so many amazing veterinarians throughout the years. I was finally able to pursue my dreams of becoming a veterinarian myself and easily made the choice to add in integrative therapies to my quiver. So many times through the years I was disheartened by seeing so many patients that had exhausted all options within western medicine, or performance athletes still not preforming to the best of their abilities, knowing western medicine had exceeded its limits. I was able to work with an amazing vet who introduced me to her integrative practice by adding in acupuncture to roughstock athletes and I was amazed by the results! So after seeing all the benefits I decided to pursue these integrative therapies for myself! Completing over a year of continued education with many hours of studying, testing, and hands on experience, I have been trained in animal acupuncture and chiropractics! Of course I haven’t abandoned western medicine, I believe combined together they provide the best opportunity for your pets and athletes to live their best lives!

Why the name, Full Quiver?
Well a quote that constantly gave me inspiration through vet school sparked the idea ..” An arrow can only be shot by pulling it backward. When life is dragging you back with difficulties, it means it’s going to launch you into something great. So, just focus and keep aiming”… adding additional arrows to my quiver allows for me to optimize on every opportunity that is best for you, your pet/athlete!

🦴 What is animal chiropractic?
-A chiropractic adjustment is defined as a short lever, high velocity controlled thrust by hand or instrument that is directed at specific articulations to correct vertebral subluxations.
- In other words when vertebral joints or extremities are “misaligned” or “out of whack” they will be put back into normal range of motion

🩺Why would you consider animal chiropractic?
- Well there are so many reasons but for starters neck, back, joint pain, slips/falls/accidents, post surgical care, bowel, bladder, internal medicine disorders…. And so many more!!!

⚡️“So I’ve heard this is quackery” or “I’ve seen videos on Instagram from a chiropractor and the animals seemed painful, yelped/kicked, and loud noises were heard…”
So let’s address some facts 👇🏼
- Did you know to LEGALLY practice animal chiropractic you have to be a Licensed Veterinarian OR Licensed Doctor of Chiropractic?
Both go through years of schooling covering anatomy of the spine/joints and hundreds of hours directed at how to properly & safely determine and adjust subluxations.
Yes, sometimes subluxations can be painful and your pet may exhibit signs of discomfort BUT your pet will feel relief after the adjustment and some even get instant relief becoming relaxed to even running around the room!
💥Addressing the “loud noises” “sounds like the bones broke” 👉🏼 don’t always believe what you see on social media, most times those are added sound effects and don’t actually occur! Very rarely will there be loud pops heard during an adjustment and we most definitely DO NOT take joints or vertebrae out of normal range of motion, so if you are seeing this in a video I suggest you check in the credibility of your “chiropractor” and make sure they are actually certified and studied hours to perform these procedures on your pet or athlete! Anyone can pretend they are a chiropractor, so make sure to research who you’re investing money & time into!

So you may be wondering what acupuncture is and how this may be beneficial to your pet or athlete, I’m here to help!👇🏼

💉What is acupuncture?
It is one part of Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM) and involves the insertion of thin sterile needles into very specific points in order to cause a therapeutic effect.
Side note: not only can acupuncture needles be used but we can also use B12, medications, and even lasers to help stimulate these points dependent on what the patient needs.
Electrostim can even be used in some cases attached to the dry needles!

📚What is the history of acupuncture?
Acupuncture has been practiced for thousands of years in China in both humans & animals! It has been well documented in books and has become mainstream for treatments in the veterinary medical system of China.

🧪Is there scientific evidence on how acupuncture works?
YES!!! Actually thousands of papers have been published in animal and human medicine involving all aspects of acupoints!

🧷Is acupuncture safe?
YES!!! When administered by a qualified Licensed Veterinarian who has been through the proper training! Very few negative effects have been documented in clinical cases.

⏳How long does each treatment take?
It varies anywhere from 20-45 minutes. The first session is usually significantly longer for the thorough exam of your pet or athlete, follow up sessions are usually much faster!

🩹How soon can you expect results?
Sometimes immediately, but other times it may take several treatments. Generally 3-5 treatments, but chronic conditions could take several before notable improvement can be seen.

❤️‍🩹What physiological effects can be seen with acupuncture?
-Pain Relief, Tissue Healing, Regulation of gastrointestinal motility, Anti-inflammatory effects, Immunoregulation, Hormone & Reproduction regulation, Antifebrile effects

🩺 When is acupuncture recommended?
-Musculoskeletal disorders like arthritis 🦴
-Neurological disorders like seizures 🧠
-Gastrointestinal disorders like colic 🐎

Clinical Case Time! 🐕 Pepper presented for an acute spinal cord injury less than a month ago and was nonambulatory (can’t walk) and in lateral recumbency (on her side) in pain. Through strict cage rest and daily to now weekly acupuncture sessions we are no longer ataxic (wobbly/unstable) and are walking without issues! We are not done with her treatments and still have a ways to go before we are pain free and able to return to normal activities but we are very happy with progress she’s made so far!
