THIS IS NOT A DRILL NO-KILL STATUS AT RISK
📢 Urgent: Bayou Animal Services at Critical Capacity! 📢
Our no-kill shelter (which is only sustainable with the animals being kept humanely) currently houses 109 ANIMALS ON SITE with 173 animals in our care. We have taken in 41 animals since June 1st. Dogs are coming in faster than we can get them adopted! While we've proudly maintained our no-kill status with the unwavering support of our community, that status is now at risk.
Our shelter is at a breaking point, and the situation is becoming increasingly unsafe and inhumane for our beloved animals and staff. To prevent any drastic measures, we urgently need:
🐾 Fosters – Even if you can only help for a couple of weeks, it will make a world of difference. We provide everything you need: food, bowls, leashes, flea and heartworm prevention, toys, crates, blankets, grooming supplies, and support from our animal care professionals. The only thing they need is your love, space, and time.
Already have pets? We are happy to pair your family with the perfect foster. According to your lifestyle and current pets.
https://www.bayouanimalservices.org/foster
🐾 Adopters – Consider adding a furry friend to your family today. We offer a two-week adoption trial with no strings attached! We provide everything you need to make this trial a success. Food, crate, leash, all preventative meds, and 24/7 contact with our adoption counselor, who can walk you through most new pet issues. You can also bring your pet to pick their next best friend.
WE ARE WAIVING ADOPTION FEES TODAY THROUGH 6/29 / With an approved application
https://www.bayouanimalservices.org/adoptable-animals
🐾 Rescue Partners – We need rescue organizations to step up and assist in taking some of our animals. We have spayed/neutered, vaccinated, heartworm-negative, well-behaved, dog-friendly, beautiful dogs that need rescuing!
Please contact our Outreach Coordinator, Leah at 832-491-9900
Your support is crucial in helping us continue to save lives and provide a safe haven for these animals. Please share this post and spread the word. Together, we can ensure a bright future for every animal in our care. ❤️Contact us today to find out how you can help: 713-876-5838

Do you have a plan in place for your pets in case of an emergency?
Being prepared for emergencies can help ensure the safety and well-being of your pets. Here are some good ideas to consider:

1. Emergency Kit 🐾🛠️
Food and Water: Keep at least a week supply of pet food and water, we suggest packing enough for two weeks.
Medication: Include any necessary medications with dosing instructions.
First Aid Supplies: Assemble a basic pet first aid kit with bandages, antiseptic wipes, and tweezers.
Collar and Leash: Have an extra collar, harness, leash, and ID tags.

2. Identification🆔🐕🐈
Microchip: Ensure your pet is microchipped and the information is up-to-date!!!
ID Tags: Make sure your pet's collar has current ID tags with your contact information. If you do not have a tag for your pets collar we suggest getting them made asap.

3. Important Documents📄🗂️
Medical Records: Keep copies of vaccination records, medical history, and microchip information in a water proof bag (like a waterproof phone pouch or Ziplock bag).
Contact List: Include your vet’s contact information, emergency animal hospitals, and a trusted friend or relative who can help if needed.

4. Safe Haven🏠🚗
Shelter Options: Identify pet-friendly shelters, hotels, or boarding facilities where you can take your pets in case of evacuation.
Pet Carriers: Ensure you have sturdy, comfortable carriers or crates for each pet with their names and your contact information on the carriers incase of separation.

5. Training and Socialization🐕‍🦺📚
Basic Commands: Train your pet to follow basic commands such as “sit,” “stay,” and “come,” which can be crucial in an emergency.
Socialization: Regularly expose your pet to different environments and people to reduce stress in unfamiliar situations.
Crate training: this is essential for reducing stress in emergency evacuations. Crates can reduce your pets stress, while also keeping them safe while traveling or in crowded shelters if you have to go to one.

6. Emergency Plan📋⚠️
Evacuation Route: Plan and practice your evacuation route, including how you will transport your pets.
Family Plan: Make sure all family members know the emergency plan and their responsibilities regarding pet care.

7. Comfort Items🧸🛏️
Blankets and Toys: Include familiar items like blankets and toys to help reduce your pet’s stress during an emergency.

8. Communication📣📲
Social Media and Flyers: Be ready to use social media and physical flyers to spread the word if your pet gets lost during an emergency. Have recent photo's of your pets easily accessible.

9. Pet-Friendly Contacts🐾
Emergency Contacts: Establish a network of pet-friendly friends or neighbors who can help care for your pets if you are unable to do so.

10. Regular Checkups🩺📆
Vet Visits: Ensure your pet is up-to-date on vaccinations and health check-ups to prevent any complications during an emergency. Make sure all pets are microchipped with updated information. If your pets are already microchipped, take them to get scanned to ensure the microchip is still in them.
By taking these steps, you can help ensure that your pets are well taken care of and safe during any emergency situation.🐾❤️

New Ordinance Alert! The City of Dickinson now has a mandatory microchip ordinance. This ordinance was adopted by our city to aid in getting more animals back home if they become lost. Our next event is June 30th at City Hall 9am-12pm. Here is the link to pre-register. https://www.shelterluv.com/form/community/BAS/2255-free-microchip-

It's almost time to celebrate Independence Day! While you prepare your BBQ and festivities, please remember to prepare your pets. Instead of them landing at the shelter they can be returned to you as soon as they are found. If your pet already has a microchip, please check to make sure that the registration is correct. Here is a link to verify what company your microchip is through and the contact information for that company. https://www.aaha.org/

If you do not know the microchip number, stop by your vet or Bayou Animal Services & Adoption Center for a free scan. This will provide the microchip number and the registration information. We are happy to scan for free during business hours, Tuesday through Saturday, 10-5.

If your pet does not have a microchip, we are providing FREE microchips to citizens of Dickinson on June 30th, 9-12, at City Hall. Here is the link to register ahead of time. https://www.shelterluv.com/form/community/BAS/2255-free-microchip-

We are overjoyed to announce that Tanner has finally found his forever home after spending over 500 days in the shelter! Tanner was pulled from the Pasadena Animal Shelter when the tornado hit their building 😢 Tanner, our dedicated dog testing dog who loves all people, had never been given a chance at a foster home or trial adoption—until now 🥰

His new mom came in looking for a friend for her dog, with a few potential candidates in mind. But we just knew Tanner would be the perfect fit. And we were right! Tanner now gets to live the luxurious life of a spoiled and loved house dog, complete with a gorgeous yard and a loving family.

Happy Tails Tanner! Your sweet nature has paid off, and we couldn't be happier for you. 🏡❤️ Take a chance on a dog who has been at the shelter for a long time, they need you.

She is spayed, vaccinated, microchipped and heartworm negative.
🐾Olga: Intake date 5/9/23. Found wandering around town, looked as if someone used her for breeding and then let her go when they no longer needed her. Adopting or fostering a shelter animal is a wonderful decision with many benefits:

🐾Save a Life: When you adopt or foster, you give an animal a second chance at life and help reduce overcrowding in shelters.
🐾Companionship: Shelter animals can be incredibly loving and loyal, providing unconditional love and companionship.
🐾Health Benefits: Studies show that pets can improve your mental and physical health by reducing stress, anxiety, and depression.
🐾Support the Community: Adopting or fostering helps reduce the strain on shelters and allows them to rescue more animals in need.
🐾Variety of Choices: Shelters have a wide range of animals, so you can find a pet that fits your lifestyle and preferences.
🐾Pre-screened Pets: Our animals are all vaccinated, microchipped, spayed/neutered and if our dogs are heartworm positive then we cover that treatment also!
🐾Feel-Good Factor: Knowing you’ve given an animal a better life is incredibly rewarding and fulfilling.

By choosing to adopt or foster, you're not just gaining a pet; you're making a positive impact on the lives of animals and your community.

Captain Sniffers spent the weekend in a foster home and this is what they had to say about him! 🐕
“Captain Sniffers is a sweetheart! He bonded with our daughter almost instantly. He was a little shy getting to know the rest of us, but settled in nicely. He has been sleeping with our daughter and is calm with good house manners overnight. There have been a total of 2 accidents in the house in 3 days, which is not bad for his age…
Sniffers is a playful pup and loves to run and chase squeaky toys. He’s doing very well on leash, but definitely wants some room to run, or someone who will run with him. He tried to get our senior dog to play, but is overall submissive. He loves boat rides!” ❤️🐾
