In an effort to help nesting birds, I decided to set a few traps. Knowing full well that I own dogs that are guaranteed going to smell something and investigate. I choose traps that can be very selective on what it will or will not catch, and also traps that will not really hurt a non target animal if it's caught.
I used a combination of Duke 650s and dog proofs. The duke traps target coyotes mainly or, in this case, my dog that jumped the fence to see what smelled so "good."
Trapping gets a bad reputation for being cruel. That is far from the truth.
Dogg, that's her name, was in the trap for probably an hour while I was running the tractor around. The time between the two videos of limping to totally fine was less than two hours. She was so unbothered by the whole experience that the following day we walked out there, and she stuffed her head right back into the triggered trap location.
Feel free to ask any questions you have about this exact experience or trapping in general. Teaching others about trapping is very important. It's a very useful tool, and I am worried that without more support, we might have this tool taken away. I don't know all the answers, but I can sure find them!
