Our fostering program is very important to our community. Not only does it help save hundreds of animal lives each year. It is also great at getting the animals prepared for their forever homes so they are well-adjusted and the transition goes smoothly. Foster kittens and puppies get used to having other animals around, including dogs, cats, horses and chickens. Plus they are exposed to your friends and family who come over to visit. Fostering a shelter pet can be an incredibly valuable and rewarding experience both for the animal and the foster volunteer.

If crazy good snuggling and a constantly wagging tail sounds good to you, look no further than Holbrook. Holbrook is a 60lbs mixed breed, with an estimated birthday of 06/01/2021. We're not sure if we've ever met a dog as happy as this guy! Seriously, Holbrook is all sunshine and rainbows, and we can't get enough! He is a huge social butterfly, anyone he meets better be ready to make a new friend! He enjoys the company of other dogs, too, but as always we require a meet and greet if you already have any in your home. Holbrook is a champion at playtime, this guy loves nothing more than chewing toys and running in our playyards! If you need a little extra light in your life, Holbrook is surely the pup for you.

Foster Jagger! 🐶💕

Jagger is here and ready to make some friends. Jagger came to us as a stray who was sadly never claimed, and now this big guy is looking for some new digs. We estimate him to have been born in early 2021, and he is a tall labadore retriever mix. This young guy is still learning that he's all grown up, meaning he loves to run and play! His favorite past time, aside from sniffing every new smell, is running around and stretching his legs. Jagger is as handsome as he is spunky, with his striking black and white coat, and he struts his looks like nobody's business. He is still working on his basic manners and obedience, but he is making great strides, and quickly too. He is starting to respond to his name, knows the "sit" command, and is walking well on a leash already. Jagger is highly treat motivated, and learns very quickly with a confident guide and some tasty snacks. Jagger would do best as an only pet, as he sees cats as toys and other dogs as competition for affection, but with his big personality he could make any home feel full. He loves to chew on kongs and chase tennis balls, and his perfect home would probably come with a big fenced in yard and a new best friend to teach him how to play fetch.

Jagger is fully vetted, microchipped, and neutered, with an adoption fee of $175.

Foster Boscoe!🐶💕

Handsome? Check. Friendly? Check. Playful? Check. Boscoe has it all! This big boy is a 31 flavors mixed breed, and we estimate his birthday to be 05/23/2023. Boscoe is a real winner of a dog. He checks all the right boxes and is just about as wonderful as a pup can be. He loves to make new friends, including other dogs, and good luck not falling for his silly personality. Boscoe is still on the younger side, so he definitely appreciates a good play session. A fun romp in the play yard or a walk with a friend is all you need to earn his affections. Boscoe is also at the age where he appreciated a good nap and snuggle session, and would be a good movie night companion too, paws down. Any family would be lucky to have a pup as great as him added!

Meet Marcella!🐱🎀

Marcella is truly a remarkable senior lady who deserves a loving and compassionate home to spend her golden years in. With an estimated age of over 10 years old, Marcella requires special care due to her diabetes, which necessitates daily insulin injections. Despite her medical needs, Marcella is a trooper when it comes to taking her medications and appreciates the extra attention and care that it involves.

This sweet lady thrives on love and affection, enjoying cuddles, sitting in laps, and being showered with attention. She is a true companion who would do best in a quiet home where she can be the center of attention as the only pet. Marcella has so much love to give that she doesn't need to share it with other animals.

Given her age and personality, Marcella can be a bit set in her ways and would benefit from a home without children. Since her arrival at the shelter in June 2023, Marcella has been patiently waiting for the perfect family to welcome her into their lives. With her gentle nature and loving spirit, Marcella would make a wonderful addition to any home willing to provide her with the care and comfort she deserves.

Here are some tips to keep pets safe in hot weather ☀️🐶💦

☂️🌳Provide shade
Pets need a shady place to get out of the sun, especially dogs with dark coats that absorb heat quickly. Tree shade and tarps are ideal because they allow air flow, but doghouses can make the heat worse.

💧Provide water
Pets can get dehydrated quickly, so make sure they have plenty of fresh, clean water, and consider adding ice in heat waves. You can offer water at least once an hour, or provide a cool place for them to wade into.

🚫Avoid hot surfaces
Hot pavement, sand, and concrete can burn or blister your dog's paw pads, especially small breeds that are close to the ground. You can try using booties or paw wax to protect their feet, or avoid walking them during the hottest parts
of the day.

⚠️Limit exercise
Don't over-exercise your pets, and keep them indoors when it's extremely hot.
Recognize signs of overheating
⚠️Early signs of overheating can be vague, but may include restlessness, whining, or seeking shade. More serious signs include excessive panting or difficulty breathing, drooling, weakness, or stupor. If your pet has a re**al temperature of 106°F or higher, they may have heat stroke, which can be fatal. If you think your pet has heat stroke, immediately move them out of the sun and contact your vet. You can also try cooling them down by wrapping them in cool towels, especially around their underarms, groin, and tummy, where their fur is thinnest. You can also apply cold, wet towels to the back of their head.

Hey guys! My name is Kit. My friends at the shelter call me a 31 flavors mix, but I think I'm 100% a good boy! I was born in the begining of 2022, and I weigh in around 35lbs. I came to the shelter as a stray and was never claimed, but I had a blast right away making new friends! I have spent lots of my time here making friends with other dogs of all shapes and sizes, and I would be thrilled to have a four legged brother or sister in the home. Of course, we always require a meet and greet if you already have any dogs in the home. I love to run around and play, and I think a kid or two would be really fun to be around. Meet Max!

Hey guys, my name is Max! I'm an American Bulldog mix, and I was born sometime around 7/1/23. Right now, I weigh in around 65lbs. I came to the shelter after I went on a solo adventure away from my home, and my parents never found me. I was a little sad about that at first, but the people here at the shelter have made sure I feel right at home while we look for a new place for me! Some things about me are my love of playing and runnging, and not to brag but I've been told I'm pretty photogenic! I have a lot to learn still, but my friends have been teaching me some basic manners, like leash skills and commands like "sit". I also really like other dogs, but I have to meet them before I agree to live with them. I think kids are pretty cool, too!

Meet Bruce Springsteen!

While our Bruce may not be the famous singer, you will still be blinded by his light! Bruce Springsteen is a handsome pit-bull terrier mix with an estimated birthday of 06/1/2021,. Mr. Springsteen is waitin' on that sunny day when he can find his forever home and spend his days getting the love he deserves. Bruce seemed to have had it pretty rough before he entered our care, he was thin, scared, and crawling with fleas. He immediately received treatments and some relieving baths, and is now beginning to show us what a happy boy he can be! He has become a playful, silly, lighthearted fella! Not only does he appreciate a good playtime and toy, but he also is a sucker for a comfy blanket and a relaxing nap. Bruce is quickly becoming a staff favorite with his wonderful personality and eye-catching looks. Bruce does well with other dogs, but as always we require a meet and greet if you already have any at home. With his intuitive energy level he would be wonderful with kids too, but has not yet been tested with cats.

Last Day of the #EmptyTheShelters event! Meet Marsh! Marshy boy is looking for a place to call home. Marsh is a striking pitbull terrier mix weighing in around 50lbs. He is full of life and love, and is on the lookout for some permanent digs. Marsh loves to run, jump, and play, and would be a great adventure buddy to an outdoorsy owner. He loves going on walks, although he is still working on the "leash manners" part. He is starting to respond to his name, and knows the sit command. If you offer an especially tasty treat, he will even give his paw or lay down for you. Marsh does well with other dogs, although as always we require a meet and greet if you already have any at home. Novie is a beautiful boxer and mountain cur mix, with an estimated birthday of 12/01/2020. November came to us as a scared and skinny stray who just wanted some love, and she blossomed in our care. She has come up to a healthier weight, and is showing us what a social butterfly she can be! Novie has become a big lovebug, she is all happy smiles and butt wiggles, and has never met someone she didn't love. She does very well with other dogs, but as always we require a meet and greet if you already have any at home. She also does great with kids, but we have not yet tested her with cats.
