The Humane Society of Dickson County was founded 30 years ago during a time of desperate need. In shelters across the country, millions of animals were dying, and in rural communities with no local solution for unwanted pets, the situation was dire. A grassroots movement in Dickson County, Tennessee, quickly grew with the mission to educate the public about spay/neuter and ensure every dog and cat has a safe home. HSDC is now an active and visible part of Dickson and the surrounding counties, providing a safe haven for homeless animals and adopting out more than 1000 pets annually. 1. You will save a life. When you adopt a pet from a HSDC, you’ll give that animal a second chance at life and make room for another animal in need.
2. You’ll save money and receive a healthy animal. Animals that we take in are spayed or neutered, as well as vaccinated. These initial procedures can be costly. It’s also relatively inexpensive to adopt a pet from us in comparison to purchasing dogs or cats from pet stores or breeders.
3. We have a large selection of pets to choose from. We are so full, which means you’ll have a wide selection of pets to choose from. Our shelter also has a website that allow potential owners to find the exact pet they’re looking for by age, sex, size and breed. This enables you to find your ideal pet rather than making an impulse decision when you arrive.

We are currently housing 121 dogs in our shelter, and our capacity is 65. We have kennels with multiple dogs, we have crates in our conference room, we are flooded 🥺😭.

⭐DOG OF THE WEEK⭐
Wiggles, wags, and lots of happy kisses make up this adorable little guy! Gadget is a handsome heeler mix with an estimated birthday of 05/01/2023, weighing in around 45lbs. Gadget sports the cutest freckled coat that stands out in any season, and his personality does not disappoint! He loves to make new friends at every turn, and is about as social as they come. Gadget may not be much good at tech support like his name suggests, but this guy will be your moral support any day! He is always happy to greet you with a wiggly tail and a few kisses for good measure. Gadget loves the company of kids, and does great with most other dogs too. Of course, we always require a meet and greet if you already have any dogs in the family. He is suited to a home without cats.
Gadget is fully vetted, microchipped, and neutered. His adoption fee is $175.
