IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR OUR CLIENTS AND ALL HORSE OWNERS - There is an active Equine Herpesvirus (EHV) outbreak in Texas ⚠️
To help keep everyone safe, we can start by implementing the following:
🐴 Temperature monitoring at home: a re**al temperature of 102F or greater is a concern.
🐴 Stay IN the trailer: If you are one of our clients, please DO NOT unload your horse when you arrive at our clinic. Call the front desk and our team will go out to your trailer.
Horses pick up EHV-1 when they are exposed to the virus in a few main ways:
1. Nose-to-nose contact
2. Aerosolized particles
3. Shared equipment
4. Human to animal
5. Infected mares to foals
Clinical signs range from mild to severe, horse owners should watch for:
🦠Fever (often the earliest sign)
🦠Nasal discharge
🦠Cough
🦠Depression or lethargy
🦠Weakness or incoordination
🦠Stumbling or ataxia
🦠Difficulty rising or inability to rise
🦠Difficulty urinating
🦠Loss of tail tone
🦠Abortion in pregnant mares
SOME HORSES SHOW NO OUTWARD SYMPTOMS YET STILL SHED THE VIRUS ❗️
If you have any other questions regarding EHV-1, please give us a call and we will try our best to get you more information.
