The 3am wake up call was worth it ♡

It was Rock's last ride with me and we rode with his owners to move cows in the drizzly Saturday morning. It was so fun to show Rock off to his owners and I think we were all excited for him to go home to join their string and family ♡

JR came in for a 30 day tune up and some finish work. He was a little lazy in his collection, back up and softness, but this is riding him around in a halter now after a month!

He's truly been a fun horse to ride, willing and wanting to please. He'll be mostly used on trails with his owner but this finish work will make them capable of overcoming any obstacle they come across! Softness and respect make for some safe fun horses, and I'm excited for his owner to get on next!

It was switcheroo day at Slick's!

Today JR went home to use his new education with his owners.
But in his place came
Royal : 3yo thoroughbred filly for a c**t start
Jaxy : 2yo quarter horse filly for a c**t start
Desi : 4 yo quarter horse mare for a leg up

( Desi is a returning student! She just need the fresh brushed off her and I'm excited to see how she's riding now compared to when I had her last year! )

Very kind guy! Personable and very willing to please!

Green broke.
He's been out moving cattle and responsive to leg pressure to guide shoulders, follows rein and nose well. Beginning to collect and break at pole. Broke to hobbles. Fine with feet and great to load and unload in trailer (will back out of trailer and no hesitation to load).

First Expo for Slick's Training Services! And along with all my gratitude for all the support and advice I've received today, I also have to say I am so incredibly proud of myself.

It was such a beautiful and wonderful day! Got to talk to so many people in the community about my passion for horses and to so many small business owners about bettering my connection to clients and followers!

The ladies who put this event on went above and beyond and I'm so grateful I got to be a part of their event!

Also I'm so thankful to my friends who stopped by and my little nephew and niece who made a special appearance ♡ And I'm especially grateful to Haley for sitting with me all day!

It's so incredible to think that after years of learning and studying how to better my horsemanship, that I get to confidently offer help to those who have a passion for horses like I do. It's just an amazing feeling knowing I put in the work to gain knowledge I can share ♡ Slick, of course, is a big reason for how I got here and it was so special to share the story of us with others and why the business is named after him.

My ten year old self would be in awe of who she is today ♡ I thank God for this love and passion, and the people He draws to me to keep me inspired and driven ♡

To flag or not to flag... That is a question!

Here I'm demonstrating the basic concept of a "join up" but introducing the commotion of a flag. We are also establishing a couple other important lessons I think a horse ought to know:

Operating soley on pressure and release, and good timing, I'm allowing Harvey here to make his own choices.

Stay with me because I'm using a delicate balance here. Now he's not too sure about all this flagging about. So I'm using different levels of commotion to help him build confidence about the flag.

If he decides he's too afraid, unsure, or simply thinks walking away will make it go away, I increase the commotion. This sends him off in a flurry. I do this until I slow the commotion down a tad and ask him to face me again. This teaches him that things get more scary or more chaotic if he decides he doesn't want to handle it.

But when he looks in, I keep an even commotion and turn away... Taking the pressure away creating a vacuum for him to fill with curiosity and relief. He learns that if he faces the scary chaos, things get better (and that I'm there in the chaos as a comfort). This encourages confidence and eventually turns into that safe riding mount that doesn't bolt, but stops, looks, and mentally stays with us.

The weather has permitted enough opportunity to finally get Jack saddled! He took it like a champ! He's definitely turning into a special guy. A little flighty out of uncertainty but full of will and always giving me the benefit of the doubt. Stay tuned!

Types of trainings available: C**t starts (3 yo and younger), refinement, and leg-ups.

Horses will have opportunities to be rode outside, moving/tracking cattle, and roping.

Riding style consists of reining fundamentals and body connection work.
