To Those Considering Surrendering Their Dog,

We understand that sometimes life circumstances change and it may become difficult to care for your dog. If you're considering surrendering your pet, we kindly ask that you do not bring them in and label them as a stray. This creates confusion and complicates the process for both you and the animal.

When a dog is brought in as a stray, there are specific procedures we must follow:

No Vaccinations or Worming: Strays are not vaccinated or dewormed immediately, as we need to assess their status before proceeding. This exposes the shelter to the risk of diseases and parasites.

Six-Day Hold: Strays are held for a mandatory six-day period, during which we attempt to locate the original owner. This means the dog cannot immediately be placed for adoption.

Unknown Personality: Without a personality form filled out by the owner, we don't have a clear understanding of the dog’s behavior and temperament. This makes it harder for us to match them with a potential adopter.

On the other hand, when a dog is surrendered to the shelter:

We can vaccinate, worm, and spay/neuter the dog to prepare them for adoption.
We can assess their personality and match them with a new family more efficiently.
We have the opportunity to pair them with a "shelter buddy" to improve their emotional well-being while they wait for their forever home.
Additionally, we have a Wish List that helps us identify the right match for each dog. The form you fill out when you surrender your dog gives us important insights into their preferences, personality, and history—making it easier to find a loving home and shorten their time at the shelter.

Please remember, we are a no-kill, no-judgment shelter. If you're unable to care for your dog, or if it’s simply no longer the right fit, please bring them in and fill out a personality form. Our goal is to place every animal in the best possible situation.
