Coyote Hunters of Maine

A hunting club to connect hunters that want to safely and ethically take coyote in Maine. This is a forum for hunters; an exchange of ideas to make us more efficient and effective. Our purpose is to help Maine hunters take more coyotes by forming this network to connect hunters. Following this simple list of rules assures that no member of this club will ever give anybody (anti-hunters) any reason

to complain.

1) Safe and ethical hunting is the number one concern. We respect the woods and the game animals, and want to always hunt in a safe manner.
2) Safe hunting also includes the utmost concern for the safety of the dogs. Know what you are shooting at and be ready to flag traffic if dogs cross roadways. Stand ten feet off paved roads when shooting and never shoot across a paved roadway.
3) Legal hunting goes along with ethical hunting. We want to work with game wardens and biologists to effectively take more coyotes. Read the law book and ask questions if you are unsure.
4) Most of us don’t wear helmets when riding a snowmobile and hunting…slow down and watch out for other riders on the trails.
5) We use shotguns only. We have found that a 12 gauge with number four buckshot in a three-inch magnum works the best. Three-inch 16 or 20 gauge with three-inch number four buckshot would be the only other option.
6) Running dogs for coyotes carries a sizable expense for dog food, vet bills, gas for trucks and snowmobiles, ammo, bait, equipment, etc. Each member must help with costs whenever they can. Joining this club is free, but please donate whenever possible. This doesn’t just mean cash; buy a GPS radio for hunting and give the extra dog collar to Bill for his dogs, bring a bag of dog food when you come to hunt (Walmart Ol’ Roy Hi-Performance), share some ammo (hard to come by), cut brush or groom trails we use, plow the back roads and turnouts we use, etc. If you think long and hard, you can come up with other ways to help out. https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=T6S9WVE7HR25Q
