I was asked Why Do Queen Bees Pipe? 🐝🌟

👉 What is piping?
It’s a high-pitched buzzing noise a queen bee makes by pressing her thorax against the comb and vibrating her wings. It sounds like a tiny trumpet inside the hive! 🎺🐝

👉 Why do queens pipe?

Rivalry: When more than one queen is present, piping is basically a “battle cry.” Virgin queens pipe to announce themselves and challenge rivals.

Warning Signal: A queen may pipe to let her sisters (other virgin queens still in their cells) know she’s ready for a fight—sometimes it prevents two from hatching at the same time.

Communication: It’s also a way to tell the colony, “Your new queen is here!”

👉 Fun fact: Beekeepers can sometimes tell if a colony is about to have a “queen duel” just by listening for piping. It’s rare—but unforgettable when you hear it!
