We want the ReVision Urban Farm’s page to be as supportive and safe as the Farm is! In the interest of making our page a welcoming space for everyone we have a few policies we request guests to follow. What a busy few weeks we've had at Revision! Our seedlings are growing up fast, and almost ready for their new homes in gardens from Dorchester to East Boston to Somerville and beyond. We've also had some time to sneak outside and plant a few rows. Enjoy a compilation of our past few weeks! 1) Having fun planting beets with 2) potting up in our greenhouse with our friends from 3) potting up oh so many tomatoes 🍅 4) Miguel planting some lovely cabbage 5) garlic is looking happy 6) a colorful corner of our very full greenhouse 7) Rose planting some more cabbage! 8) Our very first asparagus harvest! Approximately 5 stalks 9) Leigha and Zach providing some valuable support in the greenhouse

We’re having another breakfast on the farm! Come by the morning of Saturday, April 8th to enjoy donuts, coffee, and free seeds and to see all that we’re growing in the greenhouse!

It's been a busy time at the farm! Last week we hosted an amazing group from NYU who helped us transfer seedlings to pots and lay tarps over the fields to suppress w**ds! We've also been seeding like crazy as we ramp up to our seedling sale and to start putting our crops in the ground!

Thanks to everyone who came to say hello last Friday for our community breakfast! We had a blast seeing everyone and getting share some food, coffee, and seeds!

Our CSA sign-up is now live! Our CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) program is a way that community members can pay for a share in our farm’s produce for a season—receiving a box of produce once a week for 18 weeks throughout the summer and fall. This supports our farm and gives you a regular share of delicious, locally grown produce! This year, ReVision is partnering with the Urban Farming Institute in Mattapan for our CSA, which will allow us to improve both our CSA program and the quality and variety of produce that our members receive!

It’s officially spring! (at least by the meteorological calendar) And we have exciting new life growing in our greenhouse. The perennials and herbs we are growing for our May seedling sale are continuing to germinate along with the vegetables we planted for the farm!

Even though its winter, we have lots growing at the farm!

Just one raised bed of lettuce in our greenhouse produced over two pounds of lettuce mix! We are also continuing with our microgreens and also are starting more winter spinach in our hoophouses. And many of the plants we have started for our seedling sale, including out echinacea, are starting to pop up! We love seeing all of this new green life🌱

Volunteers are a vital part of our farm, helping us plant, w**d, water, and harvest, as well as building connections to our community in Dorchester and beyond! And so we are excited to invite volunteers back on the farm as the weather warms up and the farm gets busier. Volunteer shifts start up again March 6th--email [email protected] to sign up!

Here's some old growth and some new growth in the greenhouse! Did you know that we have an avocado plant? She's been growing for a few years now, and while you shouldn't expect avocados in your CSA anytime soon, we're hopeful she'll continue to be happy at our farm.

We'll be growing nasturtiums to help with our pest management in the greenhouse this spring, and to enjoy their beautiful flowers. We're starting to see the first bits of growth from the thyme we seeded last week. Our growing season still feels far away, but it's lovely to have some greenery again!

It is with gratitude that we reflect upon the accomplishments of the 2022 season at ReVision Urban Farm. This year had its challenges, from a persistent drought to record-breaking heat, but we were supported and fortified by our incredible community of neighbors, customers, interns, staff, volunteers, fellow urban farms, and dear friends. We are grateful for this land in Dorchester, and the nutrient-rich bounty she yields for our community. We are grateful for our non-human friends, from the bees to the ladybugs to the red-tailed hawks, and the balance and health they provideto our ecosystem. We are humbled and inspired by our collective impact, and eager to continue and improve upon our work in 2023.

In the words of our favorite growth mindset guru, Carol Dweck (any psychology fans out there?): “What did you learn today? What mistake did you make that taught you something? What did you try hard at today?” Farming is part education, part experience, part passed on wisdom and lots and lots of lessons learned from failure. While trying to make best use of our farm compost system, we are slowly honing in on the best process to separate the good compost from the debris. Although our contraption failed this time, we are learning from our mistakes. Soon enough we’ll have a functioning compost screening system ready to go!

Happy World Bee Day to our favorite of pollinators 🐝 We encourage everyone to take steps, no matter how small, to help protect these ever important members of our ecosystem. Don’t know where to start? Try planting a pollinator garden and commit to stopping the use of pesticides and other harmful chemicals. The bees will ❤️ you for it!

Our bees took advantage of yesterday’s warm temperatures to do some spring cleaning 🐝 🧹 Over the winter, some of the hive ends up dying and their bodies usually fall down to the bottom board. The warm weather gave those that survived the winter a chance to safely clean out their hive mates who have passed on. 💀 Oh yeah, after a long winter inside they also got a chance to use the toilet. 🚽

Our greenhouse is BUGGED! With ladybugs, that is. This powerful army of ladybugs is helping to keep pests (like aphids) at bay. They can eat up to 50 a day, and 5,000 in their lifetime. Hope they’re not on a diet! 🐞🤗
