We haven’t been keeping you all updated on here very well! We are starting to wind down farrowing season and close to the time we can open the barns for you all to see what we’ve been up to!

We will have approximately 40 litters of primarily crossbred and Durocs born from mid-December thru mid-February to show you this spring. As we’ve done in the past, all pigs will be sold privately off the farm. We will open the barn for viewing the earliest litters later this month- will try to keep everyone up to date here as the time gets closer.

Customer success story!

Congratulations to Marcie Harward for exhibiting the 5th overall ChiAngus heifer at Jr Nationals! She was the 1st calf out of BOST Haley 44H that Higgins Farms purchased from us in Pandora Cattle’s fall heifer sale in 2020. Like this heifer, the majority of our ChiAngus herd traces back to the legendary Nevada Nights cow.

We will have show heifer and future donor prospects like this available again this fall. Give us a call or stop in to find your next winner! 🏆

Expo photo dump... better late than never! The boys had a great week in Des Moines. They placed 1st, 2nd, 3rd, & 4th in their classes. 3 of the 4 purebred gilts we brought made top 5 bred and owned for their breed! Shout out to these kids (and Dad) for all their hard work getting to this point. Thanks to all for the positive comments we received during the week on the hogs as well!

This winter has definitely not been without its challenges, but we are happy to announce that the BARN IS NOW OPEN for show pig sales! We are currently showing pigs best suited for fairs thru mid-July. We have a nice group of crossbreds, Durocs, and Yorkshires available.

All pigs are all sold private treaty off the farm. Message or call to set up a time to pick out your next project! We will have about 30 litters born from mid December thru early March to pick from.

They say good things come to those who wait…

I know auction season has started and it’s easy to get showpig fever. Our earliest litters are mid-Decembers, which we feel will be plenty big for your mid June - July fairs. They are moving onto chips and we hope to open the barn by the end of the month! All pigs will be sold privately off the farm.

Weaned our first couple litters off to make room for more sows in the crates! Pigs are looking great - We’ve got about 18 litters on the ground and another 18 due before the end of the month! If you’re looking for us any time soon, we will be in the barn (or trying to catch a nap 😴). We should have a nice selection of crossbreds, Durocs and Yorks to choose from this spring.

Proven profitable genetics! This high-selling heifer was the first calf out of the heifer we sold in Pandora’s online sale 2 years ago. Most of our ChiAngus genetics still trace back to Nevada Nights, including direct daughters born in recent years thanks to ET. Some cows never go out of style!

An easy clipping guide for you swine exhibitors! Another couple of tips:
- Cordless clippers are a game changer.
- Train your pig to enjoy clippers, beforehand. Simply take your clippers into their pen, with no intention of actually clipping them, and get them used to the sound. Rub the vibrating clippers all over their body. This will make the process much easier when it comes tome to clip.
