Happy 4th of July from the Chain of Command Dog Training family.
During your festivities and celebrations of our Nation’s Independence Day remember your four legged family members. More dogs are lost Fourth of July weekend then any other time in the year.
Please keep your dogs safe and secure, put on some noise to drown out the fireworks, and make sure they are wearing a collar with updated contact information just in case you are separated.
Enjoy your Fourth of July!!!!!!

Have you told your dog they have done GOOD today?

Many people seek out training because their dog has some variation of unwanted behaviors. It is not only our job as pet owners to deter bad behavior but to encourage wanted “GOOD” behaviors. One habit that is often missed or not emphasized as much is to ensure that we are telling our dog “Good” for those wanted actions. If a dog is constantly told “no” or corrected for unwanted behaviors but never acknowledged when doing a positive behavior, it can and will leave the dog unsure to what the wanted behaviors are. Just like with people, if a dog receives some sort of reward for a positive behavior, it is more likely to be repeated. This could be as simple as giving a “good potty” when they go potty outside or a “good sit” when they positively react to a command.
By changing this mindset to acknowledge wanted behaviors, it will not only help reinforce those positive behaviors but help build your bond and relationship between you and your dog!

If you need help in training your dog and reinforcing those positive, wanted behaviors give us a call to schedule your next training session.

Does your dog stare at you? It has been proven that mutual staring between dog and owner releases oxytocin in the brain. When your dog makes eye contact with you they are signaling affection and attention to you. Eye contact is a very important part of the bond between you and your dog. If your dog is looking at you they are focused and a focused dog is much easier to train.
We like to use the dogs name as a cue for eye contact, that way wherever your dog is, if they hear their name they know they need to look to you to learn what comes next.
