For those asking, Mina has finally come into season! The plan is Drake x Mina, and puppies would be ready to go home mid September.

Both are fully health tested - OFA hips, eyes, elbows and echocardiograms. DNA testing completed through PawPrint genetics. Both Drake and Mina are AKC JH titled, and both work as hunting dogs on a private preserve. Both are loved house dogs and have the temperament you'd expect from a Labrador - confident, friendly, good with dogs and people including children, are exceptional working dogs.

Mina was bred by Mike Suttle for his detection dog breeding program. Drake was bred by me, and serves as a full time hunting guide dog for his owner. They are both environmentally rock solid. You'll find their pedigrees links below, and that will take you to links to their health testing.

Both are very strong, powerful dogs that live to work but relax happily in the home. They are exceptionally stable and clear headed, and crate and kennel well.

Puppies will be raised with Avidog protocols and a whole lot of effort will go into their first eight weeks here with us. They will be litter box trained, which makes housebreaking a breeze. They will be microchipped, have their first set of vaccines, be vet checked and extensively socialized before their go-home day.

These puppies will make excellent sport dogs, hunting dogs, SAR candidates, or excellent candidates for any type detection work.

Coco- mini spa session 💅🏼☺️ when any puppy - but especially a doodle - is here we make sure the puppy gets tons of experience with grooming and handling. Grooming will be a part of their life, as they need regular maintenance of their coat. She’s gotten so good about sitting through grooming sessions over the past two weeks.

The rest of the week calls for lessons, training and agonizing trips to New Jersey to complete echocardiograms on current breeding dogs. That will finish up ALL of the heath testing for this group this year, for which I went above and beyond including running bloodwork on everyone this past week.

The plan is 2 litters in the spring/summer. Hopefully the timing is right and this all works out seamlessly.

I'm working on fully updating my website when all results are in, and when it's all complete there will be one place to go for information about all of my dogs. I'll post the link next week.

If you are interested in a puppy from me, you probably know the care I take with each litter and how much easier training and housebreaking is when they already have a start with me in my home.

If you're starting to think about adding another dog to your family, feel free to reach out via PM.

I'll post updates as they happen. :)

While I am not a veterinarian or canine nutritionist, I am a dog trainer, there is one common sense thing I’d like to share that I feel is often misunderstood, and it certainly crosses into the realm of dog training. The recommended feeding amounts for the weight of your dog (on the back of your dog food bag) is only a place to start when it comes to how much you should be feeding your dog.

Even while my dogs are on the same type of food, I regularly change amounts based on how they look and feel. It’s ok to add more or cut back on food when needed. I’m not sure Lucy is thrilled with my recent edit, but I want to keep her as pain free as possible during these senior years, and her weight has come up a bit and I’m going to do a temporary cut back and then shift her back to a bit more if needed when the weather is warmer, and she’s able to run a bit more. The ground conditions have not been great for her to really cut loose lately at full speed as she’d like.

There are great resources online for assessing your dog’s body condition so you can evaluate their needs regularly!

Chicken soup for the dogs is ready for the fridge! This version is just chicken and carrots. There are so many other (dog safe) things you can add, but yesterday was a snow day, and I had to use what I had on hand. Everything has been blended together and once the air settles to the top, I will skim it once more, and it will be ready to use for tonight’s dinner.

Dog Trainer Burnout is a Thing…What about Trainer’s Dog’s Burnout?

This about this scenario:

Imagine if your human housemate brought home a new person regularly that you didn’t know. The new person was learning about how to behave better in public, with the help of your housemate. But because that new person had never been taught basic sociability; they had no concept of boundaries, personal space or manners. That would get old pretty quickly, don’t you think? Your patience would grow thin over time. After all, it’s your home, and you deserve a peaceful space.

It’s very easy to burn out your own dog’s tolerance of other dogs by forcing them to deal with untrained dogs on a daily basis.

My dogs help me with new dogs by asking them to just do their thing while I work with this new dog, and do not allow the training dog to interfere intitally. This works out beautifully because I am working to build a relationship with this new dog - I’m not looking to find entertainment for them. I should be the most interesting thing in the room, eventually.

Depending on the dog, they often do play together with my dogs, but it is certainly not the first thing we focus on.

Once I have enough of a history with a new training dog, and have good control of their behaviors, they are far more likely to be good playmates for others, if they are dog-social. Keep in mind not every dog likes other dogs and every case is different.

There are some dogs that are fully integrated into my group of dogs as they spend a lot of time with us, but we take time with new client dogs and teach them how to behave around others. This takes more than a few days.

I write this so potential clients can understand why we do the things we do, the way we do. Expect us to always advocate for our dogs just as we will always advocate for yours.

Making chicken soup for the dogs tonight!

🙋🏼‍♀️I’m dog trainer, Adrienne Mesko, and these are videos and photographs of both my dogs and the dogs I train 🐕

🤔 Wondering why some of these dogs don’t have “perfect” obedience yet? It’s because they are dogs in training! A work in progress. ☺️

🤨 Don't agree with something I'm saying? Keep in mind these are just snippets of big concepts distilled for social media.
