Successful outing this year at the Tollesboro Lions Club Horse Show. Tobias brought home back to back blues in the stick horse and Lead Line with his pony Elsie Mae. And mom made a blue ribbon ride aboard WC It’s Gametime. The birthday boy had a full weekend of horses with his friends and family. We’re sure blessed to have spent the weekend doing what we love with the people we love.

Tobias Wendell, you are such a blessing to everyone who knows you. You’ve never met a stranger and I don’t think you’ve ever met a horse you didn’t like. You’ve grown so much in front of all of our eyes and you’re starting to make your daddy feel old. I couldn’t be anymore proud to call you my son.

Tobias got to take a ride on our beloved mare today and she’s starting him out as his step up horse from his pony. This mare is family to us and we’re so excited to see her and Tobias bond together.

If you don’t think your kids watch every move you make, they do.

This morning Tobias and I were going to do morning chores like always and I tell him we’ll start feeding the back pens and he can help me hay. He looks up and says “Daddy you hay, I’ll water.” And I was a bit unsure whether he was being serious or not. I look back and he has his water turned on just enough to not make a mess but to fill buckets. It was a very proud moment for me standing in the doorway of the barn. It makes me smile to see him starting to develop his own work ethic and the skills he watches us do day in and day out (even if it is just watering horses).

Mr. Ernst T.. this big mountain of a sorrel horse packed myself and mom around the show ring for many years, he’s enjoyed his retirement but he wanted a job.. and around here it’s about like the unemployment office, we’ll find you something.

Dad’s been trail riding him and he enjoys that fine, but I wanted to ask for a little more today. Now if you’ve ever been beside this horse you’d swear he’s a crossbred. So out of the spirit we all have I decided to hook on to one of our yearling c**ts (A PERFECT WIN) who lacks NO spirit and see how well he’d do getting ponied. Out of no surprise Ernst hooked in and found his new calling. Both Ernst and the c**t had never done anything like this in their life and it worked out perfectly.

Moral of the story, every horse deserves a job. This gelding is 17 years young and he’s had a job his whole life and I’m pretty confident he enjoyed today as much as he did packing ribbons out of a show ring.

One thing is for sure, I know someone who had a big time at the Owingsville lions club horse show this weekend!

“Loretta’s Ritzy Decision” We started this filly’s sire, grand dam, and her dam. Now she’s back at the farm where she was foaled out at to be started herself under saddle. She’s getting the hang of things and coming along well. She is owned by a member of our family Hope Burns.

THE PERFECT JAZZ This nice 10 yr old gelding came to us Saturday from Amy and Emily Thoroughman. He will be a contender for the youth country pleasure division. We have big hopes for Emily and “Swilly”, everyone wish them luck as we all work toward blue ribbon honors this year!

If nobody else is enjoying the weather, Tobias sure is.

SOLD I’m in the mood to sell something. This black mare is 7 years old, not spooky or skiddish of anything. Rides around fine just has been laid off for close to a year. Needs her mouth worked on and she should be ready to go. I had plans to make her something more than she is now I just do not have the time and she’s wasting away in the field. She’s not broke for a kid or beginner, she will need someone who knows how to ride. As far as bucking or raring there is none, she’s just definitely more go than whoa. She stands right about 14.3-15h. She is grade so the only thing I can tell you she’s out of is a trailer coming from Indiana. I think with some time she would suit anyone but as for right now she needs an experienced rider because she is pretty hard on the bit. Like I said I’ve done no maintenance to the mare other than feeding her, worming, and she’s been trimmed a couple times. My loss is your gain, first $1,000 owns her. We’ve been fortunate to have good ones pass through our barns for a lot of years. But now it’s even more special since my son is getting to start lay his hands on and even ride them. We begged Stephen Poston to sell us this little buckskin but for obvious reasons he wanted to hang on to him. Super broke little horse and was a joy to be around, found this video this morning and figured our followers would enjoy it and to definitely show off our friends super nice horse!

I was looking back at horses that have made their way through our barn. And this young homozygous stallion we broke was sure one of my favorites. This was after 30 days and his first trip off the farm. Good colts like this doesn’t stay long and he didn’t, miss this young horse a lot!
