🀒 Regurgitation vs. Vomiting β€” What’s the Difference?

Pets can bring things back up for many reasons, but regurgitation and vomiting are NOT the same!
Knowing the difference can help your veterinary team diagnose the cause more accurately.

βœ… Regurgitation
β€’ Happens quickly + effortlessly
β€’ Food or liquid comes back up soon after eating
β€’ Usually undigested
β€’ No nausea signs beforehand
β€’ Often tube-shaped (from the esophagus)

βœ… Vomiting
β€’ Active process β€” involves retching + abdominal effort
β€’ May happen hours after eating
β€’ Food is often partially digested
β€’ Nausea signs beforehand: drooling, licking lips, pacing
β€’ May include bile

🐢🐱 Why it matters

Because these processes have different causes, they are diagnosed and treated differently.
If your pet is bringing up food frequently, take note of what it looks like and how it happens β€” and give us a call!

We’re here to help get to the root of the issue and keep your pets feeling their best. πŸ’›

πŸŽ—οΈ November 7th β€” National Canine Lymphoma Awareness Day πŸŽ—οΈ

Today we pause to raise awareness for canine lymphoma, one of the most common cancers affecting our beloved dogs. πŸ’›
Lymphoma accounts for nearly 10–20% of all canine cancers and impacts the lymphatic system β€” a vital part of the immune system. While it can sound scary, early detection and regular checkups can make all the difference in treatment and quality of life.

Watch for signs like:
🐾 Swollen lymph nodes (under the jaw, in front of the shoulders, or behind the knees)
🐾 Decreased energy or appetite
🐾 Weight loss
🐾 Increased thirst or urination

At Forrest Avenue Animal Hospital, we believe awareness and prevention go hand in hand β€” because catching changes early can save lives. πŸ’›πŸΆ

As it gets darker earlier, our pets may feel the change too!
Shorter daylight hours can affect their routine and behavior.

You may notice:
β€’ More restlessness or clinginess
β€’ Changes in energy
β€’ Anxiety on evening walks
β€’ Disrupted feeding/sleep schedules

How to help:
βœ… Keep a consistent routine
βœ… Add indoor play + enrichment
βœ… Use reflective gear for nighttime walks
βœ… Offer reassurance and extra bonding time

Just like us, pets can take time to adjust β€” a steady routine and a little extra love can help them feel safe and secure! πŸ’›

πŸŽƒ The Only Thing Spooky This Season… Is Fleas! πŸ‘»πŸΎ

We’ve seen an increase in flea cases this year β€” and trust us, these little critters are the real fright of the season! πŸ¦‡πŸ©Έ

Even as the weather cools down, fleas can survive indoors and continue to spread. Make sure your pets are protected year-round with flea preventatives to keep them (and your home!) itch-free. πŸΆπŸ±πŸ’™

Give us a call if you need to refill your pet’s prevention β€” let’s keep the scares limited to Halloween fun! πŸŽƒβœ¨

🐾 October is National Pit Bull Awareness Day🐾

This month, we celebrate the loyal, loving, and goofy personalities of pit bulls everywhere! πŸ’™ Often misunderstood, pit bulls make wonderful family pets when given love, proper training, and responsible care.

Let’s work together to:
❀️ Spread awareness about responsible ownership
🐢 Break the stigma surrounding the breed
🏑 Support adoption and rescue efforts
πŸ’‰ Keep pets healthy through regular vet care

πŸ“Έ Share a photo of your pit bull in the comments and tell us what makes them special!
