✏️✏️Just a little educational/informative post. ✏️✏️

We have people question our adoption fees at times. So i thought I'd try to clear things up a bit.

First of all, we run strictly on donations here at NovaStar. We get ZERO in any kind of govt assistance or funding. We are not a city shelter. Second, we fully vet every dog that comes thru this rescue. Spay, neuter, all shots, heartworm test if over 6 months, fecals, deworming, treat for heartworms if positive ($300 to $600), and start flea/tick and heartworm prevention On every dog! That would be easily $300 per dog without any health issues, and that doesn't even count food during their stay here. So when you say our $150 to $300 adoption fees are too high, you make us laugh but you also let us know you cannot afford a pet right now. The adoption fee, no matter what it is, is just a fraction of what that dog is going to cost you over its lifetime (10 to 15 years). We do have a fix for this situation, particularly where older folks living on a fixed income are concerned. You can FOSTER!! You get a doggy to love on and play with. We supply all food and meds. And the dog gets to experience life in a real home and live a great life until adopted. Having our dogs in homes also helps get them adopted faster.

So the next time you think our adoption fees are "too high" and should be more in line with city animal shelter fees, remember their vet bills are paid by the City. NovaStar's vet bills are paid by our supporters and our adoption fees. BIG DIFFERENCE.

For the Boston Terrier folks! Buster and Bubba need homes! They are brothers, approximately 18 to 24 months. They will not be adopted together. They are sweet friendly boys used to living in a home. Please come out and visit Buster and Bubba, maybe take them for a Doggy Day Out on this beautiful Monday!

Just another feel good pic!! Mommy Icee's babies are growing like Lil weeds and have little sharp shark teeth now! And they're about to be on the move! Mommy spends a lot of time hiding out from them these days!

These gorgeous little nuggets of puppy breath and fat rolls will be available for adoption very soon!!

Just a "feel good" pic to start off the week. Sweet mommy, who we have named Heidi, lived in the woods behind a church, giving birth to litters of puppies. Only 2 survived one litter. 6 out of 9 survived this litter. But her and her precious babies are safe now. Mommy will never be on her own trying to keep puppies safe and alive. She will be spayed and we will find her a great home where she will be loved and cherished like she deserves.

Her little ones are only about 5 to 6 weeks old but will be available for foster to adopt very soon!

2026 is hitting HARD!! We have received an unbelievable number of requests for help this last 5 days. We have taken what we could.

We picked up 5 puppies about 5 weeks old and mom and her 2 kids from her last litter just this morning. They were living in the woods behind a church over here at Mill Creek. Puppies are gorgeous little shepherd mixes.

Of course, the 2 sad Shepherds from a couple days ago who are doing well.

We also took the mom of a litter and a pregnant female from the mess at Atkins where a murder left a bunch of dogs homeless. Puppies are all with a foster and we provided shots flea meds wormer and food for all.

Then our 2 sweet little pyr mix mange Puppies, dumped in Pottsville.

And now a sweet little bully dumped on a man's porch this morning!

STOP DUMPING YOUR ANIMALS!!

The new year is not playing nice!! We are being forced to CLOSE THE DOORS for a few weeks. We are overfull and understaffed!! If anyone has a few hours a week to spare to wash some dishes or laundry or help clean up puppy pens, we are DROWNING!! we are open for volunteers every day from 9 til 3.
If you would like to donate for any of these dogs it would be hugely appreciated.

The pregnant girl will go for spay abort and heartworm test tomorrow. The sheps will go for a general checkup and heartworm tests.

Everyone has been vaccinated, given flea/tick meds, and wormer, as well as good food and clean water!

Teaching puppies to eat is a labor of love. And messy! Our staff shows our Stars, big and small, lots of love every single day. Love, patience, kindness, a soft touch, a gentle word. Some have never known these things before. It breaks our hearts to see a puppy or an older dog duck when you go to pet them. It tells us they've known too many unkind hands. But that will never happen here. Here they will only know love and care, a full food bowl and a sparkling clean water bucket, every day!! No ticks and fleas eating them alive. Soft straw, beds or blankets to sleep on. And people who talk to them and pet them and show them they care every day.

You can help by coming out and volunteering in so many ways. Please reach out if you'd like more info on all our volunteer opportunities. We welcome the community to come out any time, 10 to 3 Tuesday thru Sunday. We are closed on Mondays.

More on the rescue from yesterday. The 2 Shepherds are older dogs, mom and son. Mom is Bella, about 8 years old. Son is Sig, about 7 years old. The owner of the dogs had emailed us about 4 weeks ago asking for help. He had to leave the area and could not take his dogs. A neighbor/friend was feeding them. It got to the point this week the friend could no longer care for the 2 dogs and we received an urgent email asking if we could pick up the dogs.

We did not STEAL these dogs. We did not TRESPASS on anyone's property. We had PERMISSION. And we are becoming a little touchy about constantly being accused of stealing dogs. WHYYYYY when we have 200 dogs currently in this rescue, why in God's name would we be stealing dogs??? I seiously need an answer to this. The community very generously provides us with more dogs than we can ever hope to save because YOU DONT SPAY AND NEUTER YOUR DOGS!! We dont need to steal an animal, the folks of this county GIVE us more than we can handle.

So starting here today, if you are on our page just to cause issues or falsely accuse us of ridiculous bu****it, then leave now or I'll help you out with that block button! ALL OF US BUST OUR A$$ES EVERY DAY for the dogs of this community. And then we are accused of some of the dumbest s**t from some of the most ill informed humans.

We HUGELY APPRECIATE the ones who support us and stand up for us. We are happy to be able to help our community with strays and dumped dogs. Unwanted litters. Etc. When we have room. And we wish we had room for all of them and never had to say no. Unfortunately that's not the case and we do have to say no. And please do not threaten us with shooting drowning dumping etc of the animals if we dont take it. Thats really not cool and it shows YOUR SH*TTY CHARACTER, not ours.

WE DO NOT, EXCEPT UNDER EXTREME CONDITIONS, TAKE OWNER SURRENDERS. If you have a dog, KEEP IT. YOU made that commitment. Honor it!!

And just a PSA for those that dont know ⭐️⭐️VETS WILL MAKE APPTS FOR YOU to get a dog fixed just like they will for us. We can ALL help our community. Spay a stray. Spay your neighbors dog that you've watched have litter after litter. STEP UP!! OFFER HELP! Rescues do not have a monopoly on all the spay neuter appts in Pope County! Shocking i know. 🤔🙄😂 Everyone can do a little to help a lot!!

We are happy you're here going into 2026 with us. We are excited for all the changes here at NovaStar. New buildings. Play yards. New more secure kennels. Its gonna be a great year. Help us make it even better!!

Good morning on this first Friday of the New Year!! We ended 2025 with a Bang!! Several new intakes in bad shape, a mom and puppies, a 10 yo senior, and more mangey puppies. We got our vet bills down to a more manageable level but they're about to go right back up again!! We have 2 that went in for heartworm treatments today (approximately $400 each). We have one who went in for a lung aspirate for chronic pneumonia($250), and one for checkup on bleeding 3 weeks after giving birth. So we have a lot going on today, jumping into 2026 with both feet!!

If you can help us out it is always appreciated. Thank you to everyone who sent donations of any kind in the last couple of weeks to help with vet bills and care in general. We are so lucky to have all of you here.
