Our first $5 FRIDAY OF 2025!! Our biggest need right now is FOOD!! So all donations today will go to purchase bags of dry food for our big babies!

We are also doing the "cold weather fosters" again this year so take a look at the dogs in the pics and maybe find one you can give a warm place to for this upcoming bitter cold!

‼️URGENT NEED‼️

Short-term fosters needed! We are requesting fosters for the cold weather headed our way. We prefer two weeks of fostering for the weather. Please if you have a garage or spare room, help us by fostering for a week or two! We have around ONE HUNDRED dogs in need of fosters and as of now we have SIX cold weather fosters. Please if you have the space, help us and our residents! Everything you need will be provided! The dogs posted below are available for foster and there are plenty more as well! We have cat friendly dogs, kid friendly dogs, calm dogs, happy dogs, small dogs, big dogs, young dogs, old dogs, good dogs, and sweet dogs! Let us know what type of dog you need and we will do our best to make it happen!

If you ever wanted to try fostering, now is the time! The cold front is about to move in and we are honestly not sure what to think of it all. What we do know is that the forecast is NOT wavering. It looks like it is going to be NASTY. We would love to see each of our residents out of the bitter elements.

Last year we cleared ALL outdoor kennels- can we do it again?!

We’re asking for:

• A minimum of a 1 wk commitment (the longer you can foster, the better though!)

• A warm, dry space for a dog to lay their head (if they can’t be inside with you, a garage is perfectly fine)

• A heart & understanding for rescue animals

All interested parties, please make sure you have an application on file with us before going to the rescue to grab a dog.

Happy and prosperous New Year from all of us here at NovaStar Rescue!!

2024 was certainly a year of challenges. Building a new facility and all the headaches that come with that. More strays and dumped puppies and pregnant dogs than we've ever seen. We ventured out into cat rescue and quickly learned we are not meant to be a cat rescue. We had more adoptions than any year yet! (We will have our numbers for 2024 soon.) We had some awesome events and lots of new volunteers and helpers! The property flooded, of course. We witnessed the unbelievable cruelty of humans over and over again. We also witnessed the miracle a little love and food and medicine can do to bring those starved broken little pups back to life! We were shown so much love and generosity and support from our community!

There were heartbreaks and hallelujahs, a lot of cussing, a lot of begging and asking for help, a lot of helpers stepping up, lots of happy moments when our Stars went home! Lots of tears for all the reasons. So many special times.

In 2025, we hope to do even bigger and better things!! And we hope all of you will come along for the adventures! Invite a few friends to join our page! There's always something going on! We have big plans for 2025!! And we're running head first into it like some of our Stars when the gate is opened!!

Lab lovers!! Piston is an older guy, 5 or 6 years. He is ready for a home with a family and a soft warm bed. Piston would do best with older kids, 12 and up. He is dog friendly and a super sweet guy. Walks well on a leash and loves to be petted and loved on and loves to play. He is all past the annoying puppy behaviors and just wants a loving family!

Piston is available for foster or adopt.

Meet Gracie! When she first got to the vet we weren't sure she would even make it through the night. She was extremely emaciated and her leg had a large wound (I will save you the visuals). She is ready to leave the hospital now and needs a foster. She is a small girl. She’s about knee high. Her leg was amputated a week ago and we will need to get her back to Jacksonville in a few weeks for suture removal. She is not spayed yet and she is heartworm positive. She will need to be given Doxy twice a day for heartworm pretreatment. She’s dog friendly so far, but not sure about cats. She is currently in Jacksonville at Jacksonville Animal Hospital but I’m sure we can get her transported wherever. Please email us if you have questions about fostering or about Gracie. The first step will be to fill out an application to foster on our website. All supplies can be provided. 🐾

Going into 2025, there are some changes coming within the rescue!! One is that we will no longer be able to take in the kitties. We have learned we are not meant to be a cat rescue. So we will be going back to full focus on our sweet pitbulls and all the other doggy breeds out there. We still have cats to move, fully vetted, $50.

We will leave the lion rescuing to the experts, Candy Page Shyan Ann. And our friends Jodi and Tara with Shoal Bay Animal Haven. Call up these ladies if you need help with kitties! They are the BEST!

It's been a minute since we updated everyone on the progress with our new bldg. It's coming along great!! It is SO CLOSE to being done. We plan to have an open house in the spring when the weather is nicer. But it is housing some of our Stars now and the bathroom, sinks, doggy wash and AC/Heat are all hooked up and ready to go!

You are all welcome to come by for a visit any time between 10 and 330.

This huge accomplishment would never have happened without all of you!! We can never say thank you enough!!

Also a BIG BIG THANKS goes to our team member Laura Jacobson- Coan !! Laura has busted her tail to get this done, helping find workers to donate various jobs, finding money to do it, begging and begging some more!! We are so grateful for all her help!!

UPDATE. they are LITTLE! 3.5 to 4 weeks max. Tiny sweet lil babies. We need puppy milk if anyone wants to help. They will be bottle fed for a week or so as we transition them to mush! The white face is Dawn! At least she didn't send solid black puppies!

What Christmas Day would be complete without a call for help for 3 tiny puppies found dumped in the woods. I was contacted by a friend of Dawn, my friend Dawn who passed away in July, about these babies. I know Dawn sent them and she is sitting somewhere laughing because she knew we wouldn't say no. So.....welcome Dawn, Dusk and Twilight to rescue.

UPDATE. Dr Parker cleaned up his wounds and he will be on strong antibiotics and water therapy for a few weeks to try and heal the tail. Or what's left of it.

Nick is spending tonight at the vet and he will come home tomorrow. Thank you all for the help with him and all the good thoughts and shares of his story.

This is Nick. His video is below. Found in southern Arkansas with most of his tail missing from some kind of trauma. He's on his way to Dr Parker now.

Nick would love some yummy treats and food for Christmas as he is very thin and needs to fatten up a bit!!
