NovaStar Rescue To educate, advocate, rescue and rehabilitate. NovaStar Rescue is a small nonprofit rescue located in Dover Arkansas. This is our purpose and mission.

Our main focus is to advocate , educate, rescue and rehabilitate Bully Breeds with a special emphasis on the pitbull. We believe Pitties are the most loyal yet most misunderstood dogs. Whether they come from off the streets or out of the shelters, every Pittie deserves a chance at a good home where they will be loved and cherished as a family member.

THANKFUL THURSDAY

Lately I've been thinking a lot (scary I know😬) about my crazy life of rescue. For all the bad parts, things like we saw yesterday, there are so many good parts to be thankful for. Of course, the 1000s of dogs we have saved is the very best part and I am very thankful to have had the opportunity to take so many dogs off the streets and out of horrible conditions and put them into great homes! Seeing the pics of those dogs living their very best lives and thinking back to where some of them came from, it is the very best feeling. The success stories and happy ever afters are what keep us going on the bad days.

Then there are all the amazing people I've met along the way. And some of those have become my best friends and partners in crime! 😂 But all kidding aside, the ride or die friends are the best!! And i am so lucky to have a bunch of those! When an emergency comes in there are multiple different people I can call on the spur of the moment who will spring into action to come help and that's such a good feeling! But I have also made just some of the very best friends. Friends that will go to dinner or go to play Bingo or take a ride over the mountain to Jasper to eat at The Jasper Cafe or just come and sit and watch a football game with me! I know it seems that a lot of older people get stuck in a rut and they really don't have many friends. I feel very fortunate at my age to have all the great friends that I do and I know without a doubt that if I ever needed anything there are so many people that would step up to come help and that's a good feeling when you're almost 70!?! 😳😳

I have friends from as far away as Hawaii New York Connecticut Rhode Island. maybe I don't get to see those people but I talk to them and I care about them and I'm happy to have had this chance to meet people all over the United States. Some i havent met in person and a few I've been lucky enough to meet face to face because of our transport!! I'm very thankful to have met those people and had the opportunity to travel the country and see things that I never would have seen.

Sometimes life takes some pretty crazy twists and turns. I never thought that I would retire from a job i dearly loved as a medical transcriptionist for almost 40 years to open a dog rescue. 😬 that was not in my plans!!

But again I am so happy and thankful that you all have given me these opportunities by supporting my rescue and my dogs and I'm very very thankful today for all the good things rescue has brought my way, along with all the bad things! I've learned a lot! I've experienced a lot. I've seen things that I can never unsee. but overall it's been a great 12 years and this Thankful Thursday i just want to say a great big THANK YOU to all of you. ❤️❤️❤️

Well you know, when it rains it pours. Right after we got back from picking up the poor mangy dogs and the bunch of little puppies this dog was brought to us. people have been trying to catch her for a few weeks out at Atkins Lake. She has a very large what I think is a mammary tumor or mass. It is very large! But there was even more concern because after we got her today we discovered she has milk and she is most likely very very pregnant. 😢

We loaded her up and took her straight to Dr Parker. We named her Cora. They will check her out thoroughly tomorrow and let us know what we can do. I don't know that that mass can be removed because it's so big but if there are viable puppies in there I don't know what we're going to do about that either. 😭😭

Stay tuned and we will update you tomorrow. Please send all the good juju to my workers who care for these dogs every day. they're very stressed with all these dogs coming in!😬 and📣PLEASE for the love of God and everything holy, Please spay your dogs. Just spay your dogs please.

Rescue mission underway. Approximately 18 to 20 dogs. We've given flea/tick meds to all the adults and the older pups. They are surrendering 9 puppies total and 2 skinny hairless adults. 🫩 Julie had seen one sad emaciated hairless dog on her way home from deer camp so we came back today to try to find her. We found her and all her friends!

If youd like to help with the extensive vetting it is always needed and appreciated!

WISHLIST WEDNESDAY IS HERE!! It's a little different this week because we're kicking off our annual Santa Paws!! This is something we have done for the last 6 or 7 years and it always goes so well and the dogs get so many things we get treats and toys that will last us for several months. This is one of our biggest events and one of the most fun ones!

HOW IT WORKS

We will post dogs everyday who are here at the rescue and some that are in Fosters and we will include a wish list with their picture. you pick a dog, comment under the picture that you are taking this dog to be your Santa Paws, and then you pick things off his wish list and either mail them or drop them off at the rescue. Please make sure if you mail things that the box is marked on the outside somewhere that this is for Joe or Sammy or whoever the dog is. This helps us not to get them mixed up. You can pick more than one dog if you would like, just comment under the picture that you are sponsoring this dog for Santa Paws.

You can purchase off our wish list or you can go and purchase the things on your own, whichever way you'd like.

🎄🎅🎄We also have a new twist to Santa Paws this year!! we will be putting Angel Trees in a few businesses around town and local people can go and pick a dog off the Angel Tree. There will be one at Tractor Supply Co. in Russellville and there will also be one at Pirates Cove in Dover. Big thanks to Jeanae Hughes at TSC and Michelle Beggs at Pirates Cove Restaurant for allowing us to put up trees!! These trees will be set up on the 21st and 22nd of November so be sure and visit these establishments and pick a STAR off the Angel Tree if you are local🎄🎅🎄

Thank you all for your support throughout the years and thank you for always stepping up to help us and these dogs. We hope our Santa Paws is the biggest one yet this year!!

Trixie joined NovaStar on Friday when she was rescued from a sad situation after her daddy passed away. Trixie was terrified at first but today she and I are suddenly best friends!! Trixie is definitely a lap dog who likes to be close. She appears to be house trained. She is between 3 and 5 years old. She is a rat terrier mix and weighs around 25 lb.

Trixie is looking for a home and will be a great fit for just about any family! She is good with dogs and kids. She would love to just be somebody's lap baby.

TRIXIE is available for foster or foster to adopt until her vetting is completed.

There was one very special passenger on the bus this week. Her name is Sophia. She's been at the rescue around 14 months. Way too long. But this weekend was her freedom ride!! We are expecting really cold nights coming up and we still have Stars outside until the new facility is complete. We need STRAW for our dog houses. If you can donate a bale you can call Price Milling in Russellville and put money on our acct there and we can pick it up. Or you are welcome to pick up Bales anywhere and bring it out to the rescue if you would like to come visit us! 😁

Winter will be soooo much easier here this year with NO DOGS IN MUDDY DIRT PENS! We are so very happy about that! Just a little straw stuffed in dog houses helps keep them so warm! Just be sure to get STRAW, NOT HAY!

STARS Transport #9 is ON THE ROAD!! 25 canines and 3 felines headed north today to homes and rescue partners!! We so appreciate everyone who makes these trips possible. We have not transported in 6 weeks due to van issues and dogs just not moving. But we got the Mercedes back this week and it is road ready.....we hope .... 😬😬😁😁😂

⭐️🌟⭐️Meet MOPPET! Moppet is a precious little 12 to 18 month old Shihtzu. She was adopted to a sweet lady but her other dog is just not adjusting to the new friend. So our sweet little Moppet is available for adoption again! She is good with other dogs and is house trained. She has had all her vetting and would love to have a new home to go to.

FIVE DOLLAR FRIDAY IS HERE AGAIN!!

Its been a "fairly" quiet week here at NSR. Work is going great on the new building. Stars are getting adopted and TWENTY SIX STARS on the transport van headed north tomorrow!!

This $5 Friday is dedicated to the many puppies we have in our care. $5 Will go a long way towards helping all these little Stars stay healthy until they're adopted! Please give if you can and please share!

Whether our dogs are rescued from the streets, saved from a shelter, or their owners have surrendered them we firmly believe that every dog deserves a chance to have a good home where they can be a loved and cherished member of the family.
