The employee pet of the month for October is Scout. Scout is owned by Jen, our lead receptionist and office manager.

He is a 11 1/2 year old St. Bernard/Boxer/Jack Russel/Dachshund mix. Jen and her family adopted Scout from West Suburban Humane Society when he was a puppy. Although he is a bit more gray, his senior age has not slowed him down. He loves car rides, road trips and playing catch at the dog park.

The true way to his heart is some shredded mozzarella cheese (preferably rustic cut!)

The employee pet of the month for September is Pukkaa. Pukkaa is owned and loved by Sara, one of our lead veterinary technicians. Pukkaa is a thirteen and a half-year-old Bichon Frise. Sara acquired Pukkaa from her previous job when she was only three months old.
According to Sara, one of the things that makes Pukkaa special is the unbreakable bond that they share. Her favorite activities are being at home with Sara and her bird Wynona, taking walks through the neighborhoods of Downers Grove, followed by taking a nap, or multiple naps.
Some interesting facts about Pukkaa:
• Pukkaa’s best friend other than Sara is their bird Wynona. Her life revolves around Sara and the bird. She follows her everywhere, keeping the floors clean and clear of food, and likes to hang out under her cage.
• When she was younger, she loved to take tissues out of the garbage and shred them into tiny little pieces all over the house.
• As far as her favorite treats, really anything edible is acceptable to her. But her top favorites are Greenie’s Dental chews, her Bravecto (flea and tick prevention) and Rejensa (her arthritis medication). But, if you drop food near her forget about getting it back, she may be an older girl, but she is still quick.

The employee pet of the month for August is Duchess. Duchess is owned and loved by Natalie, one of our veterinary technicians. Duchess is an 8-year-old Calico. Natalie had initially only planned on fostering Duchess and her kitten, but soon realized that she could not give her up. Duchess soon became her first foster failure.
Her mom reports that one of the things that makes Duchess special is that she is the only cat that will play and cuddle with the family’s dogs.
She is an extremely social girl who is calm with all people she meets. Some interesting facts about Miss. Duchess:
• Her favorite activity is looking out the window and chattering at the birds
• She can open any type of pet food container on the market. All the pet food and treats have to be kept in a locked cabinet.
• Her favorite treats are Greenies Dental Treats
• Do not let her cute photo fool you, she is very naughty. She loves to sneak out of the house only to lay in the backyard.

July’s employee pet of the month is Bagel. Bagel, also known as Stinky, Stinko, Borko, Bdee, is owned and loved by our receptionist Jazmin. She is a true “Heinz 57” mutt, comprised of mainly Mini-Poodle, Shih Tzu, Am Staff, Japanese Chin and Lab. Bagel, along with her 3 puppies, was transported from OK to Anderson Humane Society in South Elgin, where Jazmin fell in love with her after just going in “to look” at the dogs they had available.

Bagel now lives the charmed life. She enjoys going to dog friendly patios, competing in barn hunt, wrestling with her dad and cuddling with her mom. She does have a lot of food allergies, but if you find something that she can eat, she will not turn her nose up at it. The smellier the better.

She is an extremely social girl who is calm with all people she meets and does extremely well at dog friendly events. Some interesting facts about Miss. Bagel:
• She hates looking at the camera, but has mastered the “candid” look in her photos
• She will not go out in the rain without a raincoat, or her full snow suit in the winter
• She loves to dress up when she goes out with her Mom and Dad.
• She has an Open Barn Hunt title, working on getting her Senior title

Employee Pet Pick of the Month:

This is Gotti. He is a beautiful Am Staff that is owned and loved by one of our long time Vet Techs, Lupe. Gotti is a Virgo that will be turning 12 this year. Some interesting facts about Gotti:

-- His favorite treats are Hills Science Diet Prescription Hypoallergenic treats, he will seriously drool over them.
--His favorite toy is a braided fleece tug toy that he has had since he was a puppy.
--His ultimate weakness is paper towels - He cannot help himself; he must shred them up and eat them.
--He once ate an entire package of lemon Oreo's and did not feel bad about it at all.
--His favorite place in the world to visit is Grandma's house. She has the best snacks.

Lupe thinks that Gotti looks dashing in a bow tie, and if you ask him he would agree.

We are pleased to announce that one of our former Veterinary Assistants will be returning to our team, this time as a veterinarian. Please welcome Dr. Mariah Miller to All Creatures Great and Small.

HAPPY NATIONAL DOG DAY

We know they get spoiled everyday, but do something extra special for them today.

04/11/2022

Today is National Pet Day, although as a pet owner, you know there’s not a day that goes by that you don’t celebrate your animal companion! So throw your dog a stick, hug your hedgehog, bond with your bunny, and cut your kitty some catnip! That critter makes you happy — and that’s not all.

Over the past 10 years, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) has been a partner in research to determine the physical and mental benefits of having a pet. It turns out that not only can pets steal our hearts, but they also contribute to overall cardiovascular health by lowering cortisol, cholesterol, and blood pressure levels.

Send us a photo of how you are celebrating National Pet day with your best friend.

Due to an issue with increased cost of goods from their suppliers, we have been notified by both Hills and Royal Canin of a price increase effective 1/10/22. The shortage of raw materials is also making it difficult to produce certain prescription diets. Please make sure that you allow adequate time when placing your order. We are very sorry for any inconvenience during this difficult time. We appreciate your continued loyalty and support.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved bearded dragon, Margarita, this past Thursday. She quickly became ill and soon passed from a rare and aggressive form of stomach cancer that had ultimately spread to her liver. She was well loved by all the staff and clients, from being raised as a baby in Dr. Andy’s home to spending most of her adult life at the display area of the lobby with daily care from all of our great staff.

We hope to have a new friend or two to help keep you company in the waiting area as you visit sometime soon.
