Love when “the bears” come! 🐾🎉
Today we welcome new visitor, Charley. I have a feeling he’ll fit in just fine! 🐾❤️
Birthdays are way better with friends! Happy birthday to Ridley!! It’s also Phoebe’s sister’s birthday, so happy birthday to Riley as well! 🥳🎂🎉
Happy FriYay!
You can tell by their smiles that they don’t have to work today (unlike some of us) 😉. Friends forever!
Doggies need vacations too! 🐾🐾 There’s nothing better than paw prints in the sand. Duck, NC 2024.
Fun time Friday!! Party at Polite Paws! 🎉🎉🐾🐾
Four smiles means happy pups! Everyone is happy that Bailey is here!
Happy faces all around! Reasons: 1) we finally got our power back, 2) we have water now, 3) we have A/C again, 4) Enzo’s in the house with us!
It has been a HOT (and by hot, I mean SWELTERING) week, but I need to give credit to two sets of committed owners who were willing to bear the heat for the good of their dogs (and don’t worry, we worked in shaded areas and tested the ground carefully before we worked).
The first is Buddy and Cody’s owner. Buddy, a Labradoodle, was becoming more and more reactive on walks, making it impossible for his owner to walk him and his big brother, Cody. They would get tangled, Buddy would bark and lunge at other dogs, bikes, etc. Wait until you see how beautifully both he and his brother walk together now! Keep up the good work, Colleen!
The other pup is Jasper, and Australian Shepherd, who was an anxious mess! He was constantly stressed, couldn’t settle down, and really didn’t know his role in the family. After the first week, I was amazed to see the difference in Jasper’s demeanor. He was calm, happy, and peacefully chewed a bone in the floor instead of jumping up and down in the couch, and frantically demanding attention from his owners (another) Colleen and Brandon. This week, we worked on walking, because like Buddy, Jasper used to make walking a nightmare for his owners. He barked at other dogs, golf carts, bikes, people, you name it. Tonight, he proved how much he’s been yearning for leadership and walked like a champ! He proudly had his ears back and his little nub was wagging away. His owners did great and I think Jasper is ready to wean off Prozac!! That’s the best news of all! Of course, we will consult with the vet, but the owners have seen more behavioral changes in two weeks than over a year with him on Prozac. It’s another reason why behavior modification is so very important!
Friends, your dogs WANT to be led. They WANT to know they don’t have to protect you because you are in charge. This takes no yelling, no negativity, simply positive reinforcement, commitment, and consistency!
Way to go , Colleen, Colleen, Brandon, Buddy, Cody, and Jasper! May you continue to find more and more success!!
From the crew here at Polite Paws, happy July 4th. These pups want to remind you to keep your fur babies safe by keeping them inside during the fireworks. 🎉🐾
Just a typical “relaxing” afternoon at Polite Paws. Just a little bit of fur, a little bit of barking, some playing, some attempt to cool down from the heat outside, the 400th 40 gallon water bowl of the day, you know… the typical. 😂😂 Sound on.
Anyone who asks if I’m relaxing this summer clearly hasn’t been to my house. 😂😂 I wouldn’t have it any other way. ❤️🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾
This lovely family has been struggling with their little guy, Mercury, reacting, barking, lunging, and pulling at every dog they passed! Last night, they learned to take control and saw what a wonderful experience walking their pup can be! He didn’t make a peep! I’m so proud of everyone, especially the 12 and 10 year-olds, who volunteered and got right to work walking Mercury with their newly-found confidence! I think they will be a lot happier (as will Mercury) now! Hooray!
I may not be a math teacher, but I definitely see some multiplication occurring here! Lol. 🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🎉
Welcoming Lucy (Old English Sheepdog) for a while! Watch as the doggies multiply throughout the week! ❤️🐾
Hooray! Phoebe’s here!
Little Henry said, “I want to play with the big fella,” so over he came! What a fun crew! Those smiles sure let us know it’s FriYAY! 🎉
Smiles for Coal visiting as his parent root for the Phils in London! 😄🐾
Super proud of both Catherine and her mom, Vange, who decided that six years of their lab/shepherd’s pulling on walks was enough. They took the plunge to get some help and could not have done better! Madden was so happy not to be choking and felt proud to be working! Check out these awesome humans and their pup! 🚶 🐕
Party time🎉 Congrats to Clark and Biggie’s sister for graduating high school! And yes, Clark IS a dog ( in the back), though my dogs and India can’t figure out if he’s a horse or a bear. 😂
I wonder who told a funny joke 😜.
Zain had to join the baby celebration! 🎉
We could not be more honored than to have Stella and Millie join our pack while their parents were busy bringing their new human BABY BROTHER into this world!! Get ready, girls! Time to make room for one more in the snuggle sessions! Wishing their owners the most heartfelt congratulations on their new bundle of joy!
How did they get a photo of Pancake in her natural habitat? 😂
Happy to have India join us! Lexie made everyone’s bandanas! Pancake is sporting a “Friends” one, Clarence is wearies Phillies, and India’s gingham is perfect with her smile!
How can you resist this face? The answer is…you probably can’t. That’s the problem little Mercury’s family was having (and a lot of dog owners have). Though we want to give in and spoil our fur babies, this actually causes a great deal of confusion for them. They crave leadership. Without it, they feel unsure of their place in the pack and often feel the need to “protect” their owners in the form of aggression toward other people and pups. In reality, all these cuties want is to know their owners are in charge so they can relax and have faith that they don’t need to be on alert and in protection mode at all times. Great first session, Consalvi family! Keep up the good work and you’ll have a relaxed, happy pup in no time!
Talk about a super mom! Julie has 21, 19, 16, and 2 year-old human children, she runs a daycare, has a geriatric dog, and now she has a 5 month-old puppy. Ummmm…. The fact that she is still kind, loving, and SANE is beyond me! To top that off, she’s potty training her toddler and Is STILL taking the time to train the puppy! Wow! Talk about putting the rest of us to shame! You go, Julie! Today we worked on some addressing some food aggression, taking treats nicely, learning the “watch command, switching food times to make everyone’s life easier, and desensitizing Willow (the puppy) to Nala (the cat). It was a lot, but not once did Julie lose her cool or give up on anything! I need to channel her energy! And boy oh boy, are Willow and Henry cuties! Henry (the toddler) stole my heart! 💜 He also might have gotten ahold of my phone 😂. Videos in comments.
If Spring Break is about partying with your friends, we’ve got you covered! 🎉🐾🎂
Sometimes life throws us some major curveballs (been there!). It takes strong people to get back on their feet and work through their fears to show their dogs they don’t have to protect them anymore. With many changes, Alastair, the gorgeous Standard Poodle, felt he needed to protect his mama by telling all the dogs in the her new neighborhood that he was the boss. She hasn’t even been able to walk his new little sister with him because he was taking his job so seriously. Yesterday, we reminded Kathy of all that hidden strength she has and not only did she remind her dog that he does not need to protect her, but she even showed Alastair that she can be in charge of both him and Pancake at the same time! Way to go, Kathy!! Keep up the good work! You’ve got this!

Henry’s mom and dad have been working hard to help Henry relax and not be so frantic, especially when guests come over. He also has had a strange mental block form walking down his driveway. Some dogs need a little motivation from a friend, which Pancake was happy to provide. After a few short practices, Henry was prancing down the driveway with both Mom and Dad, proud as can be! More pictures and videos in the comments. Way to go, Henry, Lara, and Matt!
