Downs & Smith Center Veterinary Clinic

Downs & Smith Center Veterinary Clinic The Downs/Smith Center Veterinary Clinics are mixed animal practices. Here for your large and small

The Downs/Smith Center Veterinary Clinics are a mixed animal practice with heavy emphasis on food animal veterinary care. We are a two clinic practice that has been well established in the communities, but has young leadership. The practice is split approximately 70% large animal and 30% small animal. The large animal practice is primarily cow/calf with some backgrounding and feedlot producers. We

currently have three veterinarians that will be willing to mentor new graduates. Support staff consists of three veterinary assistants, receptionist, kennel help, and a business manager. We pride ourselves on our friendly environment and our ability to provide quality care at reasonable rates. We believe in treating others as we would want to be treated and this is an important part of our business model. Our community, employees, clients and patients are all important at the Downs/Smith Center Veterinary Clinics. We strive to provide a professional, relaxed work environment where people know you by name and depend on the same friendly faces taking care of their needs.

If you are concerned our phones aren't working, we can assure you they are. They are just that busy. Please bear with us for the next several weeks. Every cow in the country goes to grass around May 1st. So from now until the first couple weeks of May we are swamped in person and on the phones trying to help you and your neighbors. The phones have been transferred to Sam's cell so that you can now leave a message instead of getting a busy signal. We promise we will call you back if you LEAVE A MESSAGE. Messages will be returned in the order they are left and will be called by the end of business day. We are doing our best, and want to express our gratitude for your business, your patients, and our employees. Thank you all for getting through these next four weeks with us.

Additionally, the stomach bug has hit some of our employees' family. So please be prepared that we may have varied business hours at the Smith Center clinic as we will have to lock the doors occasionally to continue sending staff to country appts that have already been schedule. We will be available this afternoon as normal from 1-5.

June 11th, 2023....if you have a herd you may be familiar with this date that has been swirling through the rumor mill. It's true, livestock antibiotics will require a rX on this date. Now, the good news, many of the antibiotics you have been using have ALWAYS required a rX. There are very few that are changing, examples of common ones are penicillin, LA 200s/300s, and sulfa boluses. Getting these products will be the same as it has been in the past when you purchase Nuflor or Draxxin. If we have maintained a relationship with you, such as, fertility testing your bulls, pregging your cows, or consulting on your vaccination programs, you qualify as having a valid veterinary client relationship, which is what it takes to sell you rX products. So you can walk in and purchase it right off the shelf from our Downs or Smith Center locations, as you need it, JUST AS YOU ALWAYS HAVE. We will keep a record of it and make sure that you have the right product for your critter, just as we always have. If you haven't had us do these things in the past, that's ok. Just reach out now BEFORE you need the product, all you need to do is establish a relationship with us. Sometimes change isn't as scary as it sounds.

Beginning June 11, 2023, over-the-counter livestock antibiotics will require a veterinary prescription. Producers are encouraged to establish a veterinarian-client-patient relationship now.
