The two silver cockerels from GypsyHen Poultry are finally starting to get along with the main flock and are now able to free range. It's crazy how much they will change over the next couple of months.

Testing out growing turkeys this year. This is a bird that I really don't care for but I do like to eat, so we'll see if this is a one-and-done thing or if I start raising these annually. So far, they've been taking the brutal heat like little champs.

I have 7 4-week-old Bresse-Marans chicks. These have been free-ranging from day 1 and can be put straight into a new coop without adult birds.

I have several Bresse-Marans chicks up to 1 week old, and one Bresse-Ameraucana. There will be additional chicks hatching for another two weeks. If kept with other chicks in an outdoor brooder, a heating plate is not necessary right now.

Heat tolerant.

There's a thousand dollars worth of spays/neuters in this photo if I use my regular vet. I have two additional female cats that also need to be spayed not pictured.

If anyone is interested in one of the baby kitties, I will be raising them until 12 weeks and we can do adoption-for-spay (you pick up kitten and pay vet). They will be raised in home with multiple cats and dogs and handled daily.

Open to working with a rescue who may know adopters or have a better process in place.

I'm keeping the adults but am asking for help or a referral to someone who can do more economical spays. If they can do the kitties too, that would be wonderful.

Total: 2 male kittens, 2 female kittens, 3 adult females

The overwinter chicks are here!

This year I'm doing barred rocks and golden sexlinks.

My overwinter birds are kept all summer and winter and sold at the start of lay in February, if they do not get added to the egg flocks.

Summetime barnyards are arriving! The white color of these chicks tells me my American Bresse is doing his job -- now if only the Bresse pullets would start laying, that'd be super.

Just a little update post, since the farm is creeping along this year.

The majority of my chicken flock has been moved on to my mom's house. She sells eating eggs, jams, and breads! I am now only working with silver Ameraucana, white American Bresse, and black copper Marans. I will still be ordering pullets this summer to raise for laying hens next spring, but am still debating on what to get.

Muscovy have been added to the homestead! I got 3 hens for the drake that got dumped out here. They have their own pen but will need a new one in the spring.

The cotton patch gosling has been named Maddie! Maddie is available for a genetic trade for another female gosling from Walker lines.

Can't get eggs in the summer because the hens are trying to hatch every egg they see. Being broody is a team sport, apparently.

Somebody dumped this guy here and nobody is claiming him. I can't let him in with my chickens because it's a drake and my geese said "aw hell no" so he's in a pen all by himself.

Does anyone have a couple of adult Muscovy hens that I can get to keep him company?

We have just one little singleton cotton patch baby this year. I believe this may be a female. Meet Maddie!

Once Maddie is old enough to leave mom and dad, I would love to do a genetic swap for another cotton patch gosling of same gender.
