“The men and women who take care of cattle stretch across this nation wide. In dusty deserts and foothills brown to chase and follow the bovine hide.

They go by many handles and they do not always agree. Some duck through catclaw and mesquite brush; Some splash in the Pacific sea.

In California and the Basin they are Vaqueros and Buckaroos. In Texas and the great southwest, the Punchers pay those dues.

In the golden land the hats are flat to fight the endless sun. They prefer a long trot, to a rapid maverick run.

Down in the land of thickets, a shorter brim is worn. In that cactus country, hats are smaller and shirts are torn…”
