Hiiiiii, we're your neighborhood trainers, and specialize in training dogs with behavioral issues like hyperactivity, reactivity, anxiety, or aggression.

If your dog has chronic diarrhea, you may be accidentally feeding them one of these ingredients.

For example, does the peanut butter you're using include xylitol? Do you include rice with their meals every day?

Also consider that stomach issues might not show that same day, so if your dog has an upset stomach, consider what they've eaten within the past three days. If your dog seems to always have stomach issues, you can always contact a veterinarian's office to ask if your dog needs to be seen.

These ingredients are safe afternoon snacks, or meal toppers for your dog, so have your little chef pick out which ones they like!

Make sure to consider your dog's diet and health history, and when in doubt, chat with your veterinarian. We want your pet to have healthy snacks, but we're not veterinarians.

We love our dogs and they love us, but if separation anxiety is hurting your pockets, try these method, recommended by our head dog trainer:

✅ Exercising your dog for 15 minutes before you leave them alone
✅ Practicing leaving them alone by waiting outside your dog. If your dog stops whining, open the door and don't act excited. Try this like 7 times a day to see actual results within a week.
✅ Scatter a hand full of treats the moment you leave the house, so your dog can get distracted by them
✅ Leave a shirt that smells like you near the door as you leave.
✅ Get them puzzle toys, or an automatic ball launcher, but see what interactive toy interests them

The whole point is that your dog loves you and doesn't know how to deal with that. This is why they chew your shoes, flip flops, pillows, and couch, because they're attracted to anything that smells most like you.

Does your dog lick their lips? Do they give "kisses" to other dogs?

This isn't just a cute behavior. It's actually a sign of anxiety in dogs, since they're self-soothing. If they're licking other dogs' lips when meeting them or playing with them, that's a sign on submission as if to ask the other dog not to attack.

Our head trainer and her service dog will be hosting a children's safety class tomorrow at Sandy Library, and it's free to attend, because we want children to stay safe around unpredictable dogs.

This will be a visual training, and your children will get a chance to practice what they've learned at the end of the session!

📍How can you tell when two dogs are about to fight?

These freeze and fixation body posture is a good warning that two dogs are about to attack. Here's what you need to know:

✅ Dog trainers are (hopefully) trained to look for other body language cues to see if this a hostile body language. In some cases, dogs pause like this before playing.
✅ If two dogs are like this, DON'T pull either one back. Instead, hold onto their harnesses and get them out of this pose using redirection.
✅ This is a "size-up" posture, where dogs check each other, and this is also why you shouldn't stare at a dog, because it can be taken in a hostile way.

If dogs love you, and they'll surely love your bundle of joy, so until they properly meet, we wanted to share with you the top 5 commands our expecting clients have found helpful:

✅ "Leave it" -- if your dog decides to lick your newborn
✅ "No jumping" -- for dogs who don't realize they're heavy and their fingernails leave scratches
✅ "Gentle" -- so your toddler can keep their tiny fingers safe when giving your dog a treat
✅ "Out" -- so your dog can leave the room if you need a minute
✅ "Heel" -- so your dog doesn't zig zag when out for a walk

In addition to these commands, consider every day scenarios, and see what commands would be helpful in your opinion. For example, what if your dog could pick up your keys, phone, or other items you've dropped?

Remember that reactivity in dogs doesn't happen overnight, and it snowballs fast, so use these techniques to set healthy habits.

The biggest thing our trainers focus on is exposure to triggers, and teaching your dogs the muscle memory to stay calm. Reactivity happens because of anxiety or under-socialization. If your dog is well rested, and only yawns in specific situations, they could be trying to tell you they're anxious. In an anxious situation like this, they'll be yawning more often, but if they're tired, they'll just yawn one or two times within roughly 20 minutes.

If you've just walked in the park for 20 minutes, but your dog yawns when a dog is walking towards you, then they're anxious.

The Nuzzles & Co. Community Clinic is excited to host an Animal Wellness Clinic tomorrow from 1-4pm at our Adoption Center in Kimball Junction! We’re offering low-cost vaccines, microchips, and deworming services, all with a pet exam. To be seen, your pet must be spayed or neutered, or you can secure an appointment with a deposit for a future spay or neuter surgery at our clinic.
