Did you know that only 3% of wild blueberries are certified organic? This number always shocks me and makes me sad. This fruit is so magical and it deserves to grow in its most natural way. Unfortunately, there is an old narrative amongst wild blueberry farmers that organic fields are nothing but problems. I was recently presenting at a meeting where a wild blueberry farmer who doesn’t use organic practices said “I give it to Ashley. I don’t know how she deals with the insects and funguses without spraying her fields.” Truthfully, we don’t. Why? Because we don’t have to. We have never had an issue with insects and/or funguses. Our fields have been organic for 24 years and they are healthy and thriving and in balance with everything around them. It’s when you start disturbing that balance that you run into problems. This fruit has been around for 10,000 years and it knows how to survive and thrive in many many conditions. 10,000 years is a lot of wisdom in the bank. I’m going to trust the plant 😍🙌 📸 Chip Dillion
