Did you know that you can actually feel your horses top teeth through their cheeks?
Horses maxillary (top) teeth over hang their mandibular (bottom) teeth by about 1/3. This is due to their maxillary teeth being slightly larger, since horses swipe their jaw to grind feed instead of an up and down chewing motion.
Run your fingers down their cheeks about where the line is on my horses face in the picture below. If you have the correct placement you will be able to feel either how sharp, or smooth your horses enamel points are on their top teeth only.
🥕 food for thought, this is also where your cheek pieces on your bridle sit on their face. When you ask your horse to turn with the bit, the cheek pieces can pull their cheeks into their teeth resulting in pain and head tossing. This is a quick way to check that theory 🥕
