The Perry County Humane Society's purpose is to promote and provide the humane care and treatment of domestic animals in Perry County, Illinois. 2024 was a yin and yang kind of year for us.

We lost some amazing staff members, and we have been blessed with new amazing staff.

We had some heartbreaking returns. But the families made and the lives saved; the kitty purrs and puppy kisses have far outnumbered the sadness.

We made 94 families in 2024!!! And by WE I don't just mean all of us working at PCHS, I include all of you who support us. You love for our shelter and this community and your support through donations and sharing of posts are what made these families possible.

Through no fault of his own Zorro has come back to us... AGAIN. 🥺🥺🥺

When adopting, you must keep in mind that it can take these babies several weeks to relax and know that they are in a safe place. Don't give up on them because things aren't perfect from day one. Perfect is only found in story books. Real life takes effort. And Zorro and all of the dogs living in shelters deserve that effort.

We are running low on dry dog food, canned dog food, bleach and fabulouso (or other similar cleaner).
Dry dog food we prefer Purina one or pure balance (any flavor), canned dog food- pate style, any flavor, bleach- no low splash, any brand.
Of course we will accept any and all donations of any kind. We appreciate the support of our community so much and we couldn't do this without you all!!

Everyone help us wish Ms Kate the happiest of happy birthdays. Kate came to visit us today and donated her birthday money to the shelter. While she was here she got to make lots of new kitty and dog friends. Our resident giant Schroeder even gave her a birthday hug.

We want to give a huge thank you to the DuQuoin Run Club for holding a charity run benefitting PCHS at the Holiday Lights display, and allowing us the opportunity to show them around the facility and meet some of our precious babies.

Everyone meet Dave. Dave is a 3ish yr old Heinz 57 mutt of many colors!! He's got double dew claws, a head the size of full grown Pyrenees, and stands about as tall as a pibble mix. His back feet are also about 3 sizes larger than they have any business being 🤣🤣

Dave is as sweet as can be, he's also afraid of his own shadow. He'll need a family that understands the importance of exposure therapy tempered with allowing him the time and ability to go at his own pace. Dave is going to hide and run from anything that he's not familiar with. But the second he knows you're a friend and not a threat he's just a big puddle of furry kissing mush ❤️❤️
