People like to promote shelter dogs over well bred "show dog puppy's"
The kill shelters are filled with innocent little puppy's and dogs that didn't ask to be born, and by you adopting one and giving it a loving home, you're doing gods work.....
With that said, allow me to make a case for the responsible show dog breeders..
My breed is the German Shepherd, my preference is the West German show dog stock, my guys are 100% West German out of world class working/show Sieger (champion) breeding kennels..
In Germany before a dog is allowed to be bred it has to be temperament tested, if it fails it's not allowed to be bred, if it is bred the litter wouldn't be eligible to be registered, meaning no papers...
This is why you see fewer skittish German Shepherds in Europe, even here in the USA, the American German Shepherd would be disqualified from showing or getting an American AKC Championship if it demonstrated any aggression or fear toward a handler or a judge while showing, this would be the American version of temperament testing, this greatly reduces the likelihood of getting a timid or fearful dog out of an american champion...
In my dog training practice I'm seeing a ton of skittish dogs of all breeds, the common denominator being they're coming from shelters or backyard breeders..
If your bargain priced Amish bred German Shepherd or shelter dog bites a neighbors kid in the face, the court will hold you responsible, not the place or people where the dog came from...
My point, don't be so quick to condemn the show dog people...
