“I was scared today.

I was scared to get on, scared to walk out the yard because I had a bad ride the day before. One bad ride, and it made me scared.

I didn’t know why. I’ve had 1000 bad rides. I’ve had 1000 falls. I’ve broken bones and bruised my pride on countless occasions, but today I was scared.

Why? Because confidence is fragile. It takes months and years to build and seconds to lose and yet we are so careless with it.

When we get on a horse, we wear a hat to protect our head. We wear body protectors, gloves, boots...

We pay so much attention to protecting ourselves physically, we forget that our minds are not invincible, and our confidence certainly is not.

Your bank of confidence needs regular deposits, not just from others... but from you. Self confidence is the most valuable currency in life.

When you go to get on, and you hesitate, you falter and you start to ask yourself “can I do this?”, chances are, your account is almost empty.

Every time you laugh and say “oh no, I’m no good” or “so and so is 10x better than me”, you make a withdrawal from that account, and before you know it, your account is empty and you’re scared to get on.

But every time you say “I’m really pleased with how that went” or “I think I rode that really well”, your balance increases.

We need to learn to give ourselves a break, pat ourselves on the back and allow ourselves to feel proud of where we are - after all, most of the time we’ve worked bloody hard to get there!

Recognising your strengths is just as important as recognising your weaknesses. Never allow yourself or anyone else to empty that account.

Confidence is valuable, don’t bankrupt yourself.”

A great post about a great stallion! We LOVE Arabian Horses

One of the greatest ambassadors out breed has ever had, the great Khemosabi++++// (Amerigo x Jurneeka++ by Fadjur) in one of my favorite shots of him from the mid 70’s when he was standing at Pereira Arabians.

A US and Canadian National Champion in both Halter and Western Pleasure, under the tutelage of the great Tom Bason and Gene LaCroix, little needs to be added to his show career. Khemo was the real deal. He won over the crowds and made new fans and friends wherever he went. Bred, owned, loved and managed by the Husband family his entire life, he may have been owned by the Khemosabi syndicate, but there’s no doubt he lived his life as Ruth Husband’s boy. Dr. Bert and the Husband children, particularly Paul, all played an important part in this great stallions life and legacy as well.

Khemosabi++++// was the absolute best cross of Frisco Mari breeding via US Reserve National Champion Stallion Amerigo, on the great Fadjur daughter and multi Nationals winning Jurneeka++. A near perfect blending of CMK, Babson and Polish breeding he inherited the best qualities of his ancestors. The only thing more legendary then Khemo the show horse, as the perfect 3-circle halter horse and the standard bearer for Western Pleasure, were his foals. The “Khemosabi look” has bred on for generations in both performance and halter winners around the world and is still important in breeding programs today.

Any time I hear the William Tell Overture or see a lovely new foal on social media with the signature 4 socks and elegant, correct look to it I smile and think back to the glory days of our breed and the favorite son from that era. Long live Khemosabi++++//, through great memories and great heirs of this amazing horse.

Thanks to Augusta Hammock for sharing such a wonderful quote below! It's so wonderful because it's so true 🐴🌿🤠💝

✨ Expectation is the root of all heart aches… or shall we say, horse aches ✨

Having certain expectations of ourselves and the situations we find ourselves in with our horses is good, because it helps us be prepared both physically and emotionally. However, sometimes we have expectations of ourselves that are just… unrealistic given the circumstances. Or that are just too high. We may know this when those expectations aren’t met, and try to ease our discomfort however we can and then brush it under the rug.

But what we don’t really talk about enough is how HARD it is to let go of that picture of how we THINK everything should be. We think we should go to that show and enter that class and have a picture perfect ride, not have our dressage horse jump imaginary obstacles, or worse… fall off.

We think our barn is going to be like those books we used to read when we were kids, and we will all be best barn friends. We don’t talk about what it feels like when we feel like the odd horse girl out and our barn life feels the opposite of community.

We don’t talk about what it feels like when we don’t feel good enough, or when our horse doesn’t quite get to where we think they are going to be when we think they are going to be there.

It’s okay. Breathe. Mourn.

And let it go 🐴🕊️
