Little baby Yuno wasn’t feeling well and his parents brought him in for care with our Emergency Department.

After some testing, Yuno was diagnosed with a virus called Panleukopenia. This virus infects and destroys rapidly growing cells, like those in the intestinal tract. It also causes white blood cells levels to drop, leading to lowered levels of immunity and can make infected animals susceptible to other infections.

Thankfully little Yuno’s parents got him in right away and after a few nights in the hospital this little baby is back home with his family 💕🐾

…. NINE German Shepherd pups!

Some of these pups weren’t feeling well and came to our emergency department for help when they were only 2 weeks old! We were able to treat the puppies and send them home the same day to heal at home. They came back to see us over the weekend to say “Thank You 🐾!"

They are all thriving and loving life at 8 weeks old. ♥️

Chewy came to us after having some vague symptoms of discomfort and a decreased appetite.

Our board certified radiologists did an abdominal ultrasound that revealed Chewy had developed an abscess on his prostate and required emergency surgery to save his life. Our wonderful surgeons performed surgery the same day.

It was a tough surgery and recovery but Chewy, his family, and the team at Ironhorse Vetcare never stopped fighting!

After many days in hospital requiring round the clock intensive care Chewy was discharged to his loving family to finish his healing at home. 💕

Honey 🍯 was having too much fun and hurt her leg.

This specific injury, a tibial avulsion fracture, can be common in young puppies. Young dogs have an area at the top and bottom of the tibia called the growth plate where the bone grows from. This area of bone is softer than normal bone and more susceptible to fractures.

Excessive force from muscle groups nearby can cause the small fragment of bone to break off. Growth plates will eventually fuse at 8-10 months of age reducing the risk of fractures.

Good news is that surgery is very successful for a happy and active lifestyle in the future!

Freyja’s owners recognized something was wrong and rushed her straight to our Emergency Department where we diagnosed her with a GDV.

Gastric Dilation Volvulus (GDV) is a life threatening condition that occurs when a patients stomach becomes dilated (usually with air) and then rotates, which causes increased stomach pressure and compromised blood flow to other organs, such as the spleen, kidney, and intestines. Immediate care and surgical correction is required for life saving treatment.

Symptoms most often include: distended abdomen, restlessness, non-productive retching, excessive drooling, & pain.

Large breed dogs who are deep chested are often most susceptible to this condition. A preventative surgery can be performed in these dogs called a Gastropexy, a procedure in which the stomach is tacked to the abdominal wall to prevent rotation in the future. Our board certified surgeons can perform this procedure using minimally invasive laparoscopic techniques!

We are happy to report Freyja is back home and healing 🐾❤️

It takes a team to save lives, and we may be biased but we’re pretty sure we have the best team out there! 🥰

Adorable little Tank came to us after receiving standard vaccinations. Unfortunately he experienced a severe allergic anaphylactic response that resulted in Noncardiogenic Pulmonary Edema, meaning that excess fluid moved into the alveoli (tiny air sacs in the lungs) causing respiratory changes and difficulty breathing.

Thankfully our team moved quickly and were able to get Tank back to his happy, playful self in less than 24 hours! 🐾

Today is Juneteenth, a holiday commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans.

In cities across the country, people of all races, nationalities and religions are joining hands to truthfully acknowledge a period in our history that shapes and continues to influence our society today. Sensitized to the conditions and experiences of others, only then can we make significant and lasting improvements in our society.
