The GoodLife Grandma Dog, and one of the originals on the Good Dog Wall, left us with Dixie sized holes in our hearts yesterday.

One of the things I was never prepared for was saying goodbye to these dogs that have been a part of the GoodLife evolution. Dixie benefited from all the extra classes, training and toys that we have added to the practice to keep dogs like her happy and healthy for as long as possible. I'm sad she didn't get the opportunity to benefit from my new cancer treatments longer.

She belonged to Kat, but was a member of our family and our team, and I speak for all of us when I say we are so, so sad. Vet school never warned me about how to ultrasound and X-ray through tears, how hard it would be to have to say goodbye, or how to be there for my team when we are all broken. We heal through committing to our work for the next dog that needs us the most.

We will miss her tremendously, but are grateful we have another guardian angel looking out for us and booping us when we need it.

Love you forever Dixie girl 🌈🌈🌈

Many people ask me (Dr. Katie) if euthanizing animals is the worst part of my job.

In many cases – yes, this is a difficult service to provide, but it is also an honor and a privilege for me to take part in the last moments a family or person has with their pet.

The decision to put down a pet is a very difficult one to make, and having been through it myself several times with my own animals, I understand the raw feelings that come with letting go of a beloved friend.

Being able to provide this service in the pet’s home is very important to me. The procedure is less stressful for both the owner and the pet, and time can be taken to discuss the process and spend time with the animal after the procedure.

Consultations can be made to discuss quality of life and make informed decisions about end of life care. Cremation services can also be arranged following the procedure.
