Bella rode Buddy today while he’s at the trainers. He’s been a perfect gentleman. We brought him home for a day so we can bring him along to the Wild Hearts Show tomorrow. If anyone wants to try him out or meet him feel free to stop by and see us at the show. He’s only been walking and trotting mostly with the trainer so we aren’t positive she’s going to canter him but we will see how it goes.
Chico the king of the ponies. He will stand by their paddock for hours as they groom him and play together. At one point we had him in the pony paddock with them so they are still buddies.
I had a really really sad day today because we had to euthanize Mercy after getting her healthy from a 2 month battle against pneumonia and a couple other bacterial infections and doing multiple procedures to drain the infection she had in her chest cavity with partial collapsed lung all the bad stuff went to her hooves too and caused her to severely founder in one foot and 3 hooves had multiple abscesses. We were hoping with pain meds and mild sedation we could get her comfortable and wait it out but her heart rate was to an unbearable level this morning so we knew we had to let her go. This mare was truly the queen of the rescue and she had so many people who deeply loved her and gave her attention. So her last 2 months were most likely the best moments of her life in spite of her illnesses. Our vet Polaris Equine dedicated so much time and energy to tirelessly help us through this whole ordeal. In the end we accomplished what we fought so hard for but her feet just got too bad that we had to make the hardest decision for her. She was the best momma to Colton and her heart for that baby made her sacrifice everything for him. She gave us a gift when she gave us that healthy boy but she risked her own life to make him healthy. She actually had a rare case of a disease that usually only happens to foals but her immune system was so low due to her emaciated condition and the fact that she had Cushings that she got it and it only has a 50% survival rate so the fact that we made it through that when it had progressed to such a severe level was quite a valiant effort so I will forever be grateful for Dr Freese and her working with us on making payments towards those bills. It took 5 chest tube drains to flush it all out and multiple antibiotics and medications. In spite of her multiple issues she was always a peppy and happy girl up until a couple days before we had to let her go. This video is of her this morning with a 93 heart rate and she was still attempting to fig
Mercy
This is a HUGE improvement for our sweet Mercy! Nearly normal respiratory rate, no coughing up blood today, big appetite for grass (still not interested in any kind of grain, hay or treats due to meds but she’s grazed for 2 hours so far), no fever, and not looking so dehydrated. She’s still very foot sore but no digital pulse which is great!
If you haven’t seen her other video we are desperately needing donations to get her emergency vet bills covered. It’s far exceeded what we planned for and so far we haven’t had any donations to help her. Those of you who have watched us for awhile know we truly only ask for help when we absolutely need it. On our own we paid $1400 for her bail, floated her teeth, vetted her, and nearly rehabbed her to a decent weight when all of a sudden after the cold snap and rain storm she came down with pneumonia. We found out today it was because she has a severe case of cushings so she was more susceptible to get sick again with a very low immune system. We started her on Pergolide which will also help with weight gain and her laminitis episode that started during this whole ordeal. This mare has the strongest will to survive so we HAVE to help her but funds are really an issue. Her bill so far is up to over $2k. We need donations! Her white blood cells show we are on the right track & results for her blood and discharge sample we got via scope on Sunday will hopefully be back today so we know which extra antibiotics we can stop or what will work best. Donations can be called into our vet- Polaris Equine or sent to our rescue using the donation button on our website. I’d use Facebooks fundraising but they hold the funds 75 days and time is of the essence right now so we can continue to get her through this.
