We have been devoted to rescuing horses for the past 9 years and it has been one of the most beautiful experiences of my life. To see horses who were thrown away, injured, starved, poorly trained or abandoned and transform them into the healthy and loved animal they were meant to be has been a blessing in my family’s life. Unfortunately that blessing has also been a major financial expense that has kept our family from thriving. No one will ever understand how many thousands of dollars we have spent from our own pockets to provide proper care, bail, medical, farrier, and training for over 1,000 horses that have come into our lives. We never asked for donations for anything besides major medical and sometimes bail for a few of the horses we saved from the kill pen. Everything else we used adoption fees, quarantine Boarding, transport fees or our own money. I have always felt very strongly that as a rescue if you couldn’t afford to support the animals in your care fully you shouldn’t have them. So I would adjust the number of rescues that I would keep at a time based on our finances. At our lowest numbers we had 6 rescues and at our highest we kept 40 at a time for one entire year. On average we had 20 horses in our rescue. We loved it most of the time and were incredibly heartbroken other times. We selflessly volunteered at the kill pen in Asheboro for over 4 years until the newer rider was being abusive to the horses and I refused to go back unless he was fired. Unfortunately he kept him and I refuse to have any part in that. God closed that door for a reason and as I no longer had the funds from quarantine boarders I slowly realized it was time for me to phase out of rescue so after 9 years of selflessly sacrificing my family it was time to change my focus from helping others to doing something that I can pass on to my children who have also worked very hard and been selflessly serving for years. We have officially rehomed all of the rescues that my daughter didn’t adopt (she kept 3 rescues that we rescued rehabbed and trained. She competes in barrel racing on Victory and Legacy and cowboy mounted shooting on Pixie - feel free to follow their adventures on my personal Facebook).
Today is my 46th birthday so I only felt it was fitting to make today the day I officially close the rescue and open a new chapter of my life. For the last fee months we have been preparing and remodeling our new business. We are opening a boarding facility and a HORSE PARK in Kenly NC. It still has a little ways to go before we want to accept any boarders and a lot more we need to do before we open the horse park to the general public but this is an exciting step for our family and we hope you all will join us in support of it. If you are looking for boarding (sorry no quarantine boarding will be available here) we would love to have you join our barn family! As always, we are committed to providing exceptional care for every horse in our lives. We named the business after one of our rescues that our family has grown attached to… Legacy Horse Park & Stables - follow us on Facebook

This horse boarding facility offers so many amenities! We are building a horse park on site.

Peanuts momma has been adopted and he’s fully weaned. He’s 5 months old now and as soon as we get his coggins he will be available for adoption!
He will be a medium pony and does lead now but will need a home that can be consistent with him. He’s super hyper and playful so not a good fit for kids until he’s been trained more. $700 adoption fee

Butterball- 9 yr old 37” mini pony - broke to pull a cart. Was my son’s rescue and he had him sent to a trainer a year ago and he used to drive him often but has since taken up distance runningso he doesn’thave the time anymore. This little guy deserves his own person who will spend time with him.

Hope & Peanut
5 yr old medium pony mare and her 3 month old c**t are available for adoption now! Just need my farrier to come back out and give them another trim and they both are going to be ready to move on to a new home! Hope has put on a ton of weight since we got her (especially after we had her teeth floated). They are both super sweet and obsessed with getting brushed and scratched. Peanut can be too playful at times so he needs to be corrected but once he gets in a herd with a horse that will correct him he’s going to understand it better. His momma is very tolerant of his shenanigans so he sometimes thinks he can do that with humans but he’s getting better with correction. These two light up my day and I’m sure they will do the same for their forever owner. $1200 adoption fee

Our minis don’t mind having a bigger horse with them so they would make good companions for a full sized horse too.

Peanut is the most curious little guy ever. The other day we had his mommas teeth floated by the vet and he was all invested in the whole thing. He even set his chin on the stand afterwards to say he was next. 🤣

Momma and foal update… we named her Hope and the little guy is named Peanut! Their recovery from being so sick was touch and go for awhile. Peanut even basically became lactose intolerant for awhile which was scary since he solely relied on milk for his nutrition. We managed to make it through those tough days and they are doing so great now! Hope is even starting to get daples and our farrier worked very hard to get her feet looking almost normal.

These two are the highlight of my day and they both come running for scratches and love every time I call for them! Hope makes all the funny faces when she gets scratches and Peanut is obsessed with getting scratches everywhere! Hope still has more to go weight wise but she’s gained a lot of weight and energy. We keep opening up different spots for them to eat as much grass as they want and she’s on mare and foal feed as well as alfalfa hay. It’s just harder to get that weight up as fast as we normally do when the baby is nursing. Peanut is only about 7 weeks old now. Eventually they will be available for adoption.

ADOPTED 🥰
Nemo update… He has proven to be a pretty good horse. He is fine for a confident beginner who will be firm with him. He trail rides, does fun shows and will walk trot or lope and stop quick if asked. Backs up, stands tied and trailers good. We have hauled him to 2 shows just for fun and hes been great. Just an all around good boy as long as you don’t let him get attached to another horse… our vet aged him at 25 although I dont believe that is correct. Unfortunately it’s limited how many people have shown interest in him.
