My name is Jasmine Sasser and I am the owner of JDS Equine Services. I truly believe in getting to know each horse on a personal level and figuring out exactly what makes them tick as an individual. Just like people no two horses are the same and each horse needs a personalized approach to their training program for the best success. Every horse that I work with becomes part of our family and they

find a permanent place in my heart. I use gentle yet clear methods to encourage and teach every horse what the correct answer to each question is. I have worked with horses of all levels, from hardly touched, abused, traumatized, unbroken, horses in need of a refresher, competition, sport horses and more. I love a challenge and often find myself helping horses that have otherwise proven very difficult, deemed dangerous or untrainable. I have extensive experience in English- Hunters, Jumpers, Dressage, Eventing, pleasure, showing, and hunter paces. Western- Games, pleasure, trail, versatility, and more. Ground work- everything from the basics to advance work, lunging, ground driving, leading, grooming, tacking, problem solving, ect. Liberty, trick riding, vaulting, roman riding, and more. One of my strongest beliefs is that horses can't tell time and therefore we have to follow the horse's lead and cater each training program to the horse's indivual needs. Each horse works in their own time and every horse will take a different length of time to see the finalized results. Despite the appearance of the photos, these three take their job VERY seriously! I don't know how I got so lucky to end up with three of the best barn cats I've ever known! From hunting to snuggling, playing to creating chaos, stressing me out running underneath the horses (🫣😳), screaming for treats, and trying to take me on "kitty adventures". They all truly embody the persona of the perfect barn cat! The three of them balance each other out purrfectly!

The biggest shout out to my three best employees ( Sorry girls, you guys are amazing and I couldn't do it without you, but animals will always win over people πŸ˜…), The Pincess Cheecha Mongolias, Cleopoptric, and (said in a baby voice) Bastet my Munkin Cat. And yes, I know, I give my animals the weirdest nicknames! πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

➑️ As much turnout as you can. Seriously. As much as you can. Yes, there are horses who can’t eat grass. And yes, there are horses who hate the bugs and the heat. But seriously, as much turnout as you can. Turnout cures or improves so much: their bodies, their minds, their energy levels, their outlook on life. Invest in good bell boots, fly mask and Bow Horse USA fly sheet, and let them go out. Can they get hurt in turnout? Sure. But they can get hurt in their stalls too. And for me, the risk versus reward is a no brainer. Out they go.

We are very sad to be losing such a beautiful trail πŸ’”πŸ˜ I really wish Dudley, Massachusetts would reconsider and leave a nature trail, natural, the way it should be. There are a lot of local paved paths for those that want/ need them in the area! The town could also just regrade the trail and still achieve all of their goals but they'd rather continue down the path the world is going and make everything about people.

There are many who have voiced their opinions but the town made up their mind before asking the people. I feel so bad for all the little animals that are losing what they know as home. I am very disappointed in this decision and the fact that they weren't even willing to come to a compromise (as far as I know, and the plans that we've been told). Every single person I've run into on that path has expressed their sadness and disappointment in this decision. By trying to make the trail accessible for others they have very likely killed a spot that has been loved and cherished by the locals.

I will also add that the trail was beyond beautiful before they screwed up the footing bringing all the big machinery down the path to prepare for the paving.

I am disappointed in you Dudley, I thought you were a town that cared about nature, farming, and its people. I guess I was wrong.

This won't just affect us as horseback riders, All the nature around, and the animals that frequent the trail, but also the dog walkers, who are losing their beautiful summer walking trail for just another paved path that they have to be worried about their dog's paws burning on.

Yes this is my opinion, I know others share it too. I'm sure there are those with the opposite but I was willing to listen to their side and proposed compromises -the best of both worlds.

That's all folks, just me expressing my sadness and already grieving what was such a beautiful place to be. I'll miss the trail as I know it and I will be adventuring , trying to find another local trail, but it will never be quite as perfect as this one.😒

As the weather warms up more and more, people are getting out to enjoy the activities they enjoy. Recently, we have seen more people out riding horses along the public ways.

What to do when approaching a horse/rider on the road:

Generally, drivers should always practice defensive driving and try to keep as safe as possible when on the road, both for themselves and for others. This extends from the everyday cyclists to horseback riders.

There are several safety tips you can follow when you spot a horse on the road:
When approaching a horse, lower your speed, whether or not they have a rider.
Pass slowly to avoid startling them and give them a wide berth.
Avoid honking, revving your engine, or any loud noises.
Make eye contact with the rider and keep an eye out for any hand signals.
Slowly speed up after you have safely passed them.
Horses may make sharp right turns due to their size, so be prepared to stop to avoid a collision.

Remember, even when they have riders and are domestic, horses are still large, fast animals that can react violently when startled or scared. Respecting their space will keep them, their rider, and you safe.

Massachusetts General Law Chapter 90, section 14 states:

β€œEvery person operating a motor vehicle shall bring the vehicle and the motor propelling it immediately to a stop when approaching a cow, horse or other draft animal being led, ridden or driven, if such animal appears to be frightened and if the person in charge thereof shall signal so to do; and, if traveling in the opposite direction to that in which such animal is proceeding, said vehicle shall remain stationary so long as may be reasonable to allow such animal to pass; or, if traveling in the same direction, the person operating shall use reasonable caution in thereafter passing such animal.”

I always remind my clients to work with the horse that's in front of them. To listen to what that horse needs in that specific moment. It can be challenging, especially if you're excited or frustrated about something. Today I practiced what I preached even if every bit of me wanted to ignore my own advice.

This morning I picked up a new-to-me saddle for my Katie lady! All morning I couldn't wait to pull her out, try it on and take it for our first ride together! However, unfortunately, when I pulled her out from the field I could tell she was uncomfortable. After further investigation it came to my attention that the bugs had really gotten the best of her. I threw my plans of riding out the window (even though I really really didn't want to, and definitely took a second to convince myself it was the only choice). Instead we had an afternoon spa day. I cleaned up her tummy and pampered her. She was thankful for the attention and that I listened to her. She's not always a snuggly girl but when you do right by her she has more than enough love to give! Horses can't talk so we have to be their voice. Stop and pay attention to what they're trying to communicate! It's an important reminder for not only me, but everyone who is around horses.
