Excellent article explaining the needs for community outreach events! Doing our best to ensure overpopulation at the shelter is prevented as best we can by targeting those who need help the most.

We were SOOOO busy on Saturday morning doing good with Habersham County Animal Shelter, that we didn't even get a chance to post! Our team saw a whopping 240 animals in just a little over 4 hours. That's 20% more than what we promised! It was brutally cold and the wind made things hard for our team, but we persevered. Even the GRINCH couldn't stop us!

These were some of the sweetest and most grateful dogs and cats we've seen all year! More posts to come with our recap numbers, but our program loves to share our success with you.

HUGE thanks to Habersham County Animal and The Allen Family for sponsoring this event. Without their contributions, there would not have been an outreach! And thank you to Petco Love for the distemper vaccines and Atlanta Humane Society for the food/treats we were able to distribute.

One of our most successful outreach events to date! Help us thank our AMAZING team who showed up and worked tirelessly to see 53 more animals than the 200 we promised! We ended up seeing patients until supplies ran out.

By the numbers...
253 pets
197 rabies vax
232 distemper vax
165 microchips
121 s/n vouchers

All of this is done to keep pets healthy and happy in their homes, preventing them from ending up in a shelter or with litters contributing to our current overpopulation crisis!

Sometimes, you just need a hug! And that's just what this shelter pup asked for and received, with our talented Dr. M.

Every week, but especially this one, we are so very grateful for our team of doctors, techs, assistants, receptionists and support staff that make our shelter days work like clockwork! Our mission at Go Fix Georgia is to ensure every shelter animal goes home already altered, to help keep chipping away at the crushing pet overpopulation problem we face. One dog, one cat at a time, maybe with a little hug in between

One of the many GORGEOUS shelter dogs that have come through this month to take their no-puppies pledge with us!

Did you know reducing the overpopulation isn't the only reason to have your dog fixed? In males, it eliminate the chances of testicular cancer and can help reduce aggressive behavior, wandering, urine-marking and more. Spaying a female takes away her heat-cycles, eliminating the risk of pyometra infections, ovarian cancer, helps reduce wandering and more.

The bottom line, fixed pets tend to live longer, healthier lives. And who doesn't want that for their pet? If you have a pet that needs to be fixed, please head over to www.pethoodga.org and make an appointment today.

And stay with us week after week as we share stories of the many shelter dogs and cats we help here at Planned PEThood of GA!

As we head into this holiday season, we realize you might be interested in adding a special furry friend to your family. We want to remind you to . There are still over 1 million shelter animals euthanized each year in the United States. Most of these animals are surrendered to the shelter through no fault of their own.

We support our partner shelters including:
Gwinnett Animal Shelter
Habersham County Animal Shelter
Toccoa-Stephens County Humane Shelter, Inc.
The Friends of Newton County Animal Services
Hall County Animal Services
Barrow County Animal Services

If you are looking for that special dog or cat, please make a point to visit one of these or your local shelter or humane society and save a life! They are waiting for you!

Highlighting two of our most dedicated volunteers! Meet Diane and Lauren. Both of these wonderful women help clean after the many dogs and cats we see, fold tons of laundry, load up animals, and more. We couldn't do so many things without the incredible team of volunteers who are behind the scenes every day!

Want to join us? Fill out a volunteer application at www.pethoodga.org/become-a-volunteer We hope to see you soon!

Yesterday was an incredible day! Helping 60 shelter animals with spay/neuter surgeries, vaccines, and even a couple of specialty surgeries.

We wanted to highlight a very sweet, special girl we saw! Her name is Strawberry, and unbeknown to the shelter, she must have been in so much pain prior to her surgery. Upon sedation, we found this huge stick, embedded in the roof of her mouth!!! Our team quickly managed to pull it out and we have no doubt she felt so much relief upon waking up!

Just a friendly reminder, NEVER let your dogs chew on bones (chicken, steak, etc) or sticks as they can splinter, become lodged like this or be swallowed and puncture through the digestive tract. Let's keep our fur babies safe, particularly this time of year!

Excellent tips from our friends over at Petco Love! Please remember that Halloween and the following holiday season can be stressful for our furry friends. A little pre-planning in regards to their safety can go a long way in preventing them from getting lost!

In addition, if your pet is not microchipped, you can make an appointment at Planned PEThood of GA for only $25. Visit our website NOW to get appointments Monday and Tuesday, before the ghosts and goblins appear at your door Halloween night!

The Go Fix team is hard at work scheduling our Gwinnett Outreach spay/neuter vouchers. One of the very first dogs to come in was this adorable little boy named Oso! He took his 'not-a-baby-daddy' pledge today at our clinic :) We are thrilled his owners were responsible, and will not allow him to accidentally father future unplanned litters.

The need at the most recent outreach event was overwhelming! We passed out almost 200 vouchers for at-risk animals, and over 60 pet owners have already reached out asking to redeem them. If you would like to help sponsor a pets surgery, please let us know! We will be happy to reach out! Donations can also be given on our website at www.pethoodga.org

It is National Vet Tech Appreciation Week and we wanted to show off just a few of our amazing women who work so hard behind the scenes! Day in and day out, they provide not only expert medical care, but also a loving touch for the dogs and cats that come to our facility.

They are shown today, helping to comfort a tiny little dog named Scarlett. She came from Habersham County Animal Shelter after her owner had passed away. Scarlett had lived in this hoarders home for quite some time and was terrified of absolutely everything.

Fortunately Scarlett bonded with a shelter employee, who has been fostering her through this transition. She came to us today for to have a long ago broken leg amputated and her spay surgery. Now she can official go back and be adopted by her foster, Officer Floyd! We absolutely LOVE happy endings as special as this

We want to give a shout out to our incredible Outreach Team who saw a whopping 322 adorable, deserving pets in just over four hours on Saturday! The statistics are in, and we couldn't wait to share!

207 dogs
115 cats
253 rabies vax
288 distemper vax
211 microchips
191 surgery vouchers

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's a whole lot of good in such a short time! Even more impressive is that 61% were unaltered and 32% had never been to a vet before, but now have basic medical care and will be sterilized within the next few months.

And a very grateful thank you to Subaru of Gwinnett for sponsoring this event! Celebrating their 'Subaru Loves Pets' month, by helping the underdogs right in our community.

We are thrilled to welcome Morgan County Animal Services into the Go Fix Georgia family of shelters! Today was their first visit to Planned PEThood of GA and they dipped their toes in by bringing three very lucky dogs to us for their spay/neuter surgeries.

It was a full circle moment for us! It is because their Senior Officer K. Bigley was there when we started our program with Newton County so many years ago. Heartwarming to start with a new county, but with a familiar face who knows how much of a difference we can make. Looking forward to many more transports with them! 10/09/2023

All dogs and cats in the shelter once started out like this, as cute little puppies and kittens. But somewhere along the line, they lost their homes for one reason or another. Whether it was as a baby, being part of an unplanned litter or an older animal being dumped after they were no longer a small plaything. There are so many reasons animals end up shelters, but you can help make a difference!

First, always adopt. Don't buy your next pet from expensive pet stores, puppy mills or backyard breeders. We promise you can find all breeds and ages in different shelters if you are patient and take the time to look.

Second, spay and neuter your pets! This is crucial to helping the overpopulation. Do you know 10+ people ready to adopt a pet right this moment? Doubtful! Even more so, will they keep them for life? So don't let your pet be the one who makes an accidental litter happen .

Lastly, everyone can do their part! If you already adopt and fix your pets, there are other things you can do. Volunteer your time. Foster a pet. Donate to your favorite organization. There are so many ways we can all step up and do just a tiny bit more for the dogs and cats, who have no voice of their own.

We wish we had a video! Meet Grover. This sweet girl came from Hall County Animal Services for her spay surgery this past week. She's almost a year and just loves life.

After her spay surgery, our team was carefully taking dogs out of their kennel to load on the bus. It's just a short trip, and Grover would be back at the shelter where her new adopter would be waiting. She must have known, because let us tell you, she RAN to the bus. And even more impressive, she immediately went into the first open kennel and laid down, tail wagging. If you could have seen it, we could swear she was saying, "Let's go, let's go!"

Our team is thrilled for this energetic beauty and have safely returned her for a chance at happily ever after! Happy life Grover!!!

Huge thank you to our friends over at Atlanta Humane Society! We have partnered with them for years and been a grateful recipient of goods through their Community Share program.

This week we were able to pick up a van load of much needed supplies - cat litter and toys for our fosters, crates for barn cat acclimation, p*e pads for feral trap use and donated cat food for our Outreach Vaccine Clinics coming up this fall! Their donations are things that we simply don't have the excess funds to spend money, but make a world of difference for the animals we care for. Help us to say thank you to AHS for their support and generosity!

Selene is a gorgeous siamese kitty looking for her forever home through Planned PEThood of GA!

Selene wants a quiet place to learn to trust people. She is a shy kitty, but she has come so far and just needs a special family to call her own. Selene has slowly been warming up to people and has learned to love running around and playing with her toys. At this time, she is not a lap kitty but likes to hang around the office humans. We hope for a patient, loving adopter who is willing to help her continue to blossom.

Selene is positive for feline leukemia virus (FeLV) but is currently healthy. It would be best if she was an only kitty or in a home with other positive FeLV cats. Whoever adopts this sweet girl will be the lucky one. Is that you?

To apply for adoption, please head over to our Petfinder link at https://www.petfinder.com/cat/selene-65806264/ga/duluth/planned-pethood-of-georgia-ga229/

THANK YOU!

We cannot thank our supporters enough, because when we ask for help, you step up! After a disappointing Friday, we posted yesterday about not receiving any donations and are almost up to $400 now! This will cover gas not just for October, but almost through the end of the year!!! Every little bit will go towards our non-profit and the dogs and cats we care for.

Spay/Neuter, lifesaving surgeries and medical care for shelter animals is at the heart of our program, extending out to helping the communities around these counties. Please continue to follow along with us as we continue to make a difference, day in and day out, here in Georgia.

And again THANK YOU!

We are absolutely heartbroken! Our $5 Friday post didn't get a single donation, even with the most adorable picture of our two emergency leg amputation kittens. So we are going to try it again!

WE NEED YOUR HELP! Planned PEThood of GA is a non-profit and we rely on grants and donations to help our programs keep running. Every single week, our Go Fix Georgia transport takes over a full surgical day to assist rural shelters with their dogs and cats. Our team provides vaccines, spay/neuter surgeries, and sometimes life saving procedures such as those leg amputations.

HELP keep our buses running for the month of October! We estimate to need $125 in gas costs for the two vans, once a week, returning these lucky animals for adoption. Please take a moment and donate below to help us keep this promise to those very deserving furbabies!

It's Caturday!

Since our job at Planned PEThood of GA tends to be very serious in the surgical suite, we like to take time to enjoy the little moments. Even better with little kittens in our pockets!

For this particular cutie, she came for her spay surgery, but was too small upon examination. We sent her back to the shelter for just a couple weeks of good food and playtime, before she will return for her Our mission is to help prevent future unplanned litters through sterilization before adoption!

Planned PEThood of GA

INNOVATIVE! That's a word that has been used to describe the Go Fix Georgia program over and over. It's an honor! However, it wouldn't have been possible without the amazing and generous initial grant given by Best Friends. We are making huge strides in Newton County each and every week, as well as working to bring other counties on. One transport, one surgery, one pet at a time.

Please keep following us to see our work and help support us when we have an animal in need. Be vocal with your local county representatives to set money aside for their shelters. Donate to your favorite animal rescues. Together we can

We're proud to not only be a network partner of Best Friends Animal Society - Atlanta but to have also received sizable grants for two life-saving programs making a real difference in the number of pets euthanized in Georgia:
--our TNR (trap-neuter-return) program, which sterilizes and vaccinates feral cats so they're healthier and can't reproduce
--our innovative Go Fix Georgia by Planned PEThood initiative, which works with rural shelters without access to low-cost spay/neuter to ensure that adopted pets are fixed before they go to their new homes.

Want to help save lives? Want to help achieve Best Friends' goal of making Georgia a no-kill state by 2025?

We have lots of ways for you to help: volunteering, fostering, doing TNR in your community, donating funds or supplies, and many more. Head to pethoodga.org for more information or plan to attend our Volunteer Orientation from 2-4 pm on Sunday, March 15!
